I hope you've enjoyed today's action as much as we did. We'll be back with coverage of the Misano Grand Prix in 2 weeks time. Check out Crash.net throughout the afternoon for reaction to all of today's action. It's been fantastic. Thanks for your company, bye!
15:39
UK Time
I think I need a long lie down after that one - a stunning end to a truly fantastic day of racing. With good results for Redding, Lowes, Kent and McPhee, and three splendid races, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone never fails to disappoint.
15:37
UK Time
Also, fair play to Zulfahni Khairuddin - his Honda stopped on the warm-up lap but he did make the race start. He came home 18th overall.
15:36
UK Time
I think we owe young Kornfeil a 'well-done' for a surprise 5th. That was his best result since the second round at Texas.
15:33
UK Time
I'm going to stick my neck out and say Fenati's championship chances ended today. A lousy qualifying followed by another sedated race. All is not well in the Sky VR46 garage. Such a shame as he and team-mate Bagnaia looked so strong in the 1st half of the year.
15:32
UK Time
Here's McPhee: "We went up the inside of 6 people of the first lap. I said I was looking forward to a good battle and that's what I got. On the last lap I ran into the right hander. Someone ran in hot, pushed me wide and 3/4 of them came through."
15:31
UK Time
The championship then: Miller's (179) lead is cut to 13 points. Marquez on 166 will be happy with his day's work. Rins (150) climbs to 3rd, 5 points clear of Vazquez. Fenati is losing touch in 5th, 44 back of the leader.
15:29
UK Time
As the riders climb the podium it's worth pointing out that Bastianini is still recovering from that cracked heel, sustained at Brno. 2 consecutive podiums on the back of that? The kid is a future star.
15:27
UK Time
Another incredible Moto3 race. We really have been spoiled this year with racing of the absolute highest quality. Just 1 tenth covered the top 4.
15:26
UK Time
Just a recap of the final 1/2 lap. Marquez led onto the Wellington Straight. Bastianini drafted by on the straight but Rins went to the absolute inside, let his brakes off and hit the front. Marquez tried into Luffield, got in his team-mate's draft and was so close to drafting by on the exit to Woodcote. Rins' winning advantage was just 0.011s! Bastianini wasn't far away either, 0.072s back of Rins!
15:25
UK Time
Danny Kent speaking in pit lane: "It was a little too late. The engine was really hot and the bike was quite slow, we need to look into that. I felt good in the corners but I got swamped down the straight. At the end of the back straight 3 of them passed me. It was like Brno, we needed to be in the right place at the right time."
15:20
UK Time
Brilliant from Rins. He's not the most emotional of characters but you can see he's lost for words and who would deny him that win after the events at Brno. He held up his hands, admitted it was an honest mistake, and has kick-started his championship challenge. Remember how he grew into the series last year? Rins is certainly back in the title hunt with that ride.
15:18
UK Time
Rins: "This was a very difficult race, we can't follow a strategy. It's better like this, with 4 riders. Finally I finish very happy. Thanks to my team, to Honda, to all the people that give me their support."
15:17
UK Time
Here's Marquez: "I don't have a plan. We saw what happens, in Moto3 it's like this. I didn't know that the group was with 4 riders at the end. I'm happy for the result to catch more points on Miller. We'll continue like this and keep going."
15:16
UK Time
So many talking points! Danny Kent salvaged 9th, McPhee 11th. Considering they were less than a second behind Kornfeil in 5th, that's a commendable pair of results from the pair.
15:15
UK Time
The final results. Just 6 seconds separated all 15 point scorers! Rins, Marquez, Bastianini, Oliveira, Kornfeil, Miller, Antonelli, Masbou, Kent, Ajo, McPhee, Hanika, Vinales, Binder and Fenati.
15:13
UK Time
And Bastianini has crashed on the slow down lap! He came over the line in 3rd, ahead of Oliveira! Bastianini went to shake Rins' hand on the entry to Maggots, Hanika coming from behind wasn't looking ahead and clattered the Italian from behind! Luckily Bastianini is up and walking, that could have been a horrible incident. I'd have to point the finger of blame in Hanika's direction for that one, I'm afraid.
15:11
UK Time
And Rins takes his 1st win of 2014 by the smallest of margins! He beats his team-mate by thousandths of a second! What a perfectly judged ride!
15:10
UK Time
17/17: Rins leads into Brooklands, he and Marquez are side by side at Luffield!
15:10
UK Time
17/17: The Hondas lead, Bastianini goes 2nd at Farm messing up Rins in the process. Marquez leads onto Wellington!
15:09
UK Time
17/17: Hangar Straight, Bastianini runs wide at Stowe, Marquez and Rins both go through at Vale! Sensational stuff! 4 can still win this!
15:09
UK Time
17/17: Last lap! Any 4 riders can win this. Bastianini leads into Stowe but Oliveira makes his play through Becketts. He can't do it though and messes up the Hondas' line.
15:08
UK Time
16/17: Bastianini goes under Rins through Farm and Village allowing Marquez to eke out a tenth or 2. But Bastianini is spectacular at Brooklands and goes through to lead! Has the Italian gone to the front too soon?
15:07
UK Time
16/17: Rins has a look at Vale but that's a rehearsal for the final lap surely. Everyone is keeping their powder dry at the moment. Antonelli still holds 5th by the way.
15:07
UK Time
16/17: Rins doesn't want to play the bridesmaid today. He hasn't won in 2014 and he looks intent on ending that stat today. He powers by along the start finish straight to slot in behind his team-mate.
15:06
UK Time
15/17: Marquez leads into Brooklands! He out-brakes Bastianini expertly…this could be a great day at the office for the Estrella Galicia men!
15:05
UK Time
15/17: Antonelli now heads the 2nd group. McPhee and Kent have been shuffled back to 10th and 12th.
15:05
UK Time
15/17: This is a disaster for Miller. The best he can hope for is 5th at the moment, barring a disaster at the front. The title leader is 9th - his lead would be clipped to 10 points if things stay as they are.
15:04
UK Time
14/17: Vinales is up to 5th ahead of Masbou and McPhee.
15:03
UK Time
14/17: Oliveira takes a long look over his shoulder coming out of Stowe. He looks relaxed at the moment, that gesture suggests he's weighing up those in front of him.
15:02
UK Time
14/17: Could Bastianini be on for his 1st GP win? He's leading the race like an experienced campaigner despite the close attentions of Rins and Marquez through Maggotts and Becketts. Oliveira is catching his breath in 4th.
15:01
UK Time
13/17: There have been rumours that all is not well in Rossi's Sky KTM squad. That would go some way to explaining Fenati's performance this weekend.
15:00
UK Time
13/17: Just to recap, that 2nd group includes: Mas, Kor, ViI, McP, Mil, Ant, Ken, Ajo, Han, Bin.
15:00
UK Time
13/17: 5 to go and we definitely have 2 groups now. The front 4 of Bastianini, Rins, Oliveira and Marquez are 1.4s clear of the chasing pack. This is not what Jack Miller (8th) wants to see!
14:59
UK Time
12/17: McPhee is still 8th at the moment while Kent is making progress. The Englishman is up to 10th.
14:58
UK Time
12/17: It seems Bastianini is stretching this group out. Both Hondas have joined the front pair while a monumental pushing-and-shoving effort goes on for 5th into Vale. How no one goes down is anyone's guess.
14:57
UK Time
12/17: Marquez is getting frustrated in 4th. He signals to Miller to follow him as he sees the front three breaking clear.
14:57
UK Time
11/17: We have a breakaway at the front! Bastianini hits the front and takes Oliveira with him. They have half a second in hand on the chasing Rins.
14:56
UK Time
11/17: Fair play Nico Antonelli, the Italian is currently enjoying 1 of his best rides of the year. He's up to 5th, pushing Miller back to 6th.
14:55
UK Time
11/17: Oliveira is sensational through Woodcote - again he drafts by the Hondas into Stowe. The sight of 14 Moto3 machines piling into Maggotts line astern really is a sight to behold!
14:54
UK Time
10/17: Guevara runs off track again! He runs on at Village, he's back in 15th. So just the 14 riders in with a shout of a podium today then.
14:54
UK Time
10/17: Forget that last comment…Rins has already gone back to the front.
14:54
UK Time
10/17: Oliveira is on it today, braking later than everyone else into Stowe. Will it be possible for the Mahindra man to gap the pack?
14:53
UK Time
10/17: Oliveira goes to the front for the 1st time! He goes 1st at Stowe - 2 corners later he's 3rd - it's that kind of race.
14:52
UK Time
9/17: McPhee continues to climb the order. We can see that Scottish flag coming through, he's 7th now as he goes under Masbou at Brooklands!
14:52
UK Time
9/17: Bastianini really is special into Stowe! He leads briefly as Rins comes right back under at Vale. The top 15 are separated by 2 seconds. Incredible.
14:51
UK Time
9/17: Fenati has lost touch with the front group - he's out of the points in 16th, a desperate weekend for the Italian.
14:50
UK Time
8/17: All of the point scorers are in 1 shot! It's a repeat of Brno, another brilliantly close contest.
14:49
UK Time
8/17: Bastianini leads into Vale and then instantly pulls out a few bike lengths on the chasing Hondas! Miller seems content to watch on from 4th at the moment.
14:49
UK Time
8/17: McPhee is making superb progress - he's 10th. Danny Kent is hanging on resolutely at the back of this lead pack.
14:48
UK Time
7/17: Oliveira's closing speed on the brakes is frightening! He's 4th at the moment and closes right in on the front 3 at Brooklands.
14:47
UK Time
7/17: We have another classic on our hands. The 1st group of 15 riders include: Mar, Rin, Bas, Mas, Oli, Mil, Bin, Kor, Ant, Gue, McP, ViI, Han, Ajo, Ken.
14:45
UK Time
6/17: Change of the lead as Rins slides under his team-mate at Vale!
14:44
UK Time
6/17: Miller has a big moment coming out of Chapel. He loses his drive along Hangar, Oliveira, Kornfeil and Binder come through.
14:44
UK Time
5/17: Bastianini leads into Brooklands! You feel his KTM shouldn't be there, it's not the fastest bike out there. Meanwhile Kornfeil goes to 5th.
14:43
UK Time
5/17: Rins drops to 3rd as Marquez and Bastianini come through. The chasing pack are closing in - I'm counting 15 riders overall lapping within 3-4 seconds.
14:41
UK Time
4/17: The front 4 of Rins, Marquez, Bastianini and Miller are making a break at the front. Masbou has lost some ground in 5th while he comes under the attentions of Jakub Kornfeil and Oliveira.
14:40
UK Time
4/17: Bastianini has displaced Miller in 3rd and he's drafting the 2 Estrella Galicia Hondas in front. He thinks the better of it going into Stowe.
14:39
UK Time
3/17: Migno goes out in his 1st race for Mahindra, Kent slips down to 15th, allowing McPhee to climb to 12th.
14:39
UK Time
3/17: McPhee is up to 14th. Fenati is in danger of extinguishing his title hopes - he's out of the points.
14:38
UK Time
3/17: Guevara makes a hash of Maggotts - he runs off track and rejoins. Meanwhile Kent is 13th, he'll need to get a move on if he wants to tag onto the back of the leading group.
14:37
UK Time
3/17: Isaac Vinales is the fastest man on track - he's back in 11th - as we see a long train of 11 riders breaking clear of the pack.
14:36
UK Time
2/17: Masbou is making progress too, he's already up to 4th.
14:36
UK Time
2/17: Fenati and McPhee won't be happy with their get aways. They're 17th and 18th.
14:35
UK Time
1/17: Vazquez is out! He's come a cropper at the end of that 1st lap! What a disaster for his world championship aspirations.
14:35
UK Time
1/17: What at opening lap from Miller! He gets past both Gresini KTMs in the blinking of an eye - down the Wellington Straight - he sits 3rd.
14:34
UK Time
1/17: Marquez heads Rins at the moment while the 2 Gresini KTMs are 3rd and 4th. Binder is behind Miller in 5th, then it's Masbou, the winner last time out.
14:33
UK Time
1/17: Joe Irving has crashed out on the 1st lap - what a shame for the young hopeful!
14:33
UK Time
1/17: Miller gets a great start, he's climbed to 5th already! Kent got away well too, he's 10th as they go onto the Hangar Straight.
14:33
UK Time
1/17: The lights are out and the last race of the day is underway! Rins gets a great jump and pulls across to lead into Copse! Antonelli is 2nd, Marquez 3rd and Bastianini 4th!
14:32
UK Time
1/17: Khairuddin is out on the warm up lap! His Honda has come to a halt.
14:31
UK Time
Rins will certainly fancy his chances today. He's looked strong all weekend - this is as good a chance as any to claw some ground back on Jack Miller.
14:30
UK Time
The warm up lap is underway. The grid: Rins, Antonelli, Marquez - Bastianini, Binder, Masbou - Oliveira, Miller, Vinales - Ajo, Guevara, Kent - Hanika, Deroue, Vazquez.
14:29
UK Time
Wildcard Joe Irving starts from 32nd. He'll be aiming for a finish on his grand prix debut.
14:29
UK Time
Danny Kent starts 12th while John McPhee is back in 17th. Watch out for the 2 Brits in the early stages of this 17 lap race.
14:28
UK Time
Miller wasn't the only rider left disappointed yesterday - Title hopeful Fenati starts 22nd after a diabolical qualifying.
14:27
UK Time
Championship leader Jack Miller has qualified in eighth place on the grid – only the third time this year the Australian has not started from the front row.
14:27
UK Time
Alexis Masbou, winner of the last race at Brno, has qualified sixth on the grid. Masbou could become the first French rider to win back-to-back races in the lightweight-class of Grand Prix racing since Arnaud Vincent in 2002.
14:27
UK Time
Brad Binder is starting from the middle of the second row of the grid. Binder has finished in the top ten at the last six races and has already scored 66 championship points so far in 2014, which is exactly the same as his final points total of last year.
14:26
UK Time
Enea Bastianini, who heads the second row of the grid, will be aiming for back-to-back podium finishes in what is his rookie season of Grand Prix racing, having finished second at the last race in Brno.
14:26
UK Time
In third place on the grid is Alex Marquez: his sixth successive front row start. Marquez finished third at Silverstone last year, less than seven tenths of a second behind race winner Luis Salom.
14:24
UK Time
Nico Antonelli is in second place on the grid, equaling his best ever qualifying result from the Spanish GP earlier in the year. The Italian will be hoping his race today lasts a little longer than it did in Jerez, however.
14:24
UK Time
Looking to make up for the mistake that cost him the race in Brno, Rins will be aiming to stand on the top step of the podium for the first time since he took his sixth win of 2013 in Australia.
14:23
UK Time
I'm sure today will be just as exciting. Alex Rins, who finished second last year at Silverstone, is starting from pole for the third time in 2014.
14:23
UK Time
We enjoyed the closest ever finish in the Moto3 event last time out at Brno - 16 riders finished within 1.9 seconds!
14:21
UK Time
Don't worry, we haven't got our times confused! Moto3 starts at 14.30 in just under 10 minutes.
14:20
UK Time
Our MotoGP race report is up on the site: http://www.crash.net/motogp/race-report/208195/1/silver-lining-for-swashbuckling-marquez.html
14:08
UK Time
2 down, 1 to go. We'll be back in 10 minutes to build up for Moto3!
14:08
UK Time
Michael Laverty speaking in pit lane: "I'm happy with that. I was with the 3 other Brits at the start but I tried to hold on when Abraham came past. Leon was 3 seconds up the track mid-race, the gap wasn't changing. It was a carrot that was dangling just a bit too far ahead. But I was ahead of the other guys on similar bikes so it was a good race."
14:05
UK Time
A great ride from Smith regardless of the result. He was looking strong in that scrap for 6th - of all the times for a cracked wheel!
14:04
UK Time
Brad Smith confirms that he cracked his wheel in the race. "It was a weird response. It felt like the wheel was out of balance. I'll admit that I'm done but I proved that I had the pace for 6th position."
14:00
UK Time
On the podium Marquez is presented with the winner's trophy. He had a point to prove today and, to be honest, you couldn't see him losing out to Lorenzo throughout their battle. His 3rd consecutive world championship is now within touching distance.
13:59
UK Time
In the end Crutchlow will be frustrated with 12th. This weekend was always going to be a damage limitation and considering how he beat himself up at this track last year, I imagine he'll be relieved to walk away from Silverstone without any further injuries.
13:57
UK Time
With today's result Lorenzo becomes only the 5th rider to achieve 80 MotoGP podiums in grand prix history.
13:56
UK Time
That was a sensational performance from Lorenzo today, reminiscent of his Mugello fightback. He took defeat in good grace too, refusing to make a big deal of Marquez's tough move on lap 18. He has certainly put the dire start of the season behind him, and he's consistently beating his team-mate to boot. But what can he do about that pesky 21-year old and his factory Honda?
13:54
UK Time
Podium man Rossi: "I'm happy, for me it's the 1st podium here. I rode at the maximum until the last lap. I'm happy about the start of the race, I stayed with Jorge and Marc. But to try and close the gap, I burn the rear tyre and I lose a lot. We have to improve because I want to fight until the end."
13:53
UK Time
A frustrated Lorenzo: "It was clear that Marc was the favourite. Sometimes you get a surprise. I make a good start, push at the maximum and ride better than ever. Our bike has improved but the Honda is so good. Little by little we improve and we fought with Marc. We touched, it lost me 1/2 a second. By then the rear tyre was destroyed."
13:52
UK Time
Dovizioso is delighted: "This is like a win to us. I lose the fight on the last lap but I didn't have the energy to fight back. I was so slow in the corners but it's a really good result."
13:51
UK Time
That's young Marquez's 11th win of the year - the 1st man to do that since Rossi was in his pomp, back in 2005.
13:50
UK Time
Here's Marquez: "Jorge was stronger than I expected. I did the same rhythm but with hotter temperature he was better. We had a great battle. When I passed him I made a small mistake, he came back and the battle was nice. I was thinking about nice year, I thought it was time to beat him."
13:49
UK Time
Off camera Iannone must have lost out late on. He was holding 6th in the closing stages but Pol Espargaro and Bradl got by.
13:48
UK Time
The top 10: Marquez, Lorenzo, Rossi, Pedrosa, Dovizioso, P.Espargaro, Bradl, Iannone, A.Espargaro and Redding.
13:48
UK Time
Rossi toasts his 246th grand prix start in the premier class with another excellent podium - he has equalled Alex Barros' record. That didn't look likely on Friday afternoon!
13:46
UK Time
There is reason for British cheer too as Scott Redding claims a brilliant top 10 finish! He took that place off Yonny Hernandez on the last lap!
13:46
UK Time
Rossi comes home 3rd ahead of Pedrosa, who took Andrea Dovizioso on that last lap. That still must rank as the Ducati man's best race of the year though!
13:45
UK Time
20/20: Marquez wins the British Grand Prix with a perfectly timed assault on Lorenzo! He restores some order to the series after his off-day in the Czech Republic.
13:42
UK Time
20/20: Marquez looks to have this - he has 0.6s in hand as they enter the back straight! This is his barring a massive error!
13:41
UK Time
20/20: Last lap! Marquez takes a tenth out of Lorenzo - his lead stands at 0.5s!
13:40
UK Time
19/20: Marquez is out of his seat around the back of the track! Lorenzo takes another 2 tenths - Marquez has just 0.3 in hand with just over a lap to go!
13:40
UK Time
19/20: That was a tough but fair move at the Loop. I can't imagine Lorenzo will be happy though! He whittles away at the lead, it's down to 0.6s.
13:39
UK Time
18/20: Change of the lead! Marquez barges by at the Loop! He tried to go under at Farm, Lorenzo closed the door, and pushed through a corner later. That has cost Lorenzo a lot, he lost all his drive down the Wellington Straight. Suddenly Marquez's lead is 0.8s!
13:38
UK Time
18/20: 3 to go and this will go down to the last lap! Lorenzo was just hundredths of a second faster last time around. Marquez is able to close in by the end of the lap but Lorenzo is strong around Vale and Club. They look evenly matched at the moment!
13:36
UK Time
17/20: As Marquez stalks Lorenzo a quick Brit update: Camier is 17th with Michael Laverty a place behind.
13:35
UK Time
17/20: Pol Espargaro has gone 6th. He and Iannone have gapped Bautista and Bradl ever so slightly.
13:35
UK Time
16/20: British Grand Prix, 2013 anyone? This is set up to be another classic, Lorenzo has really stepped up his game today!
13:34
UK Time
16/20: Lorenzo leads into Vale! Marquez looks to respond instantly through Club and nearly runs into the side of the Yamaha! Lorenzo has put the hammer down.
13:32
UK Time
15/20: Lorenzo does indeed respond…he closes through Vale and Club, he's more or less on Marquez as they enter the Loop. This one isn't over just yet.
13:31
UK Time
14/20: That was a great, clean move by the championship leader. He gaps Lorenzo, there's 3 tenths between them now. Lorenzo will need to respond quickly if he wants to peg the Spaniard back.
13:30
UK Time
14/20: Change of the lead! Wow, that didn't take long! Marquez comes past into Stowe corner, Lorenzo tries to respond at Vale but he isn't close enough.
13:29
UK Time
14/20: Marquez sets the fastest lap on L13, He's right on Lorenzo's rear!
13:28
UK Time
13/20: Dovizioso confirms his speed by picking off Pedrosa through the Loop complex! He's up to 4th!
13:28
UK Time
13/20: Rossi retakes 3rd at the end of the Hangar Straight! Pedrosa runs in hot, leaving just enough space for the Italian to push through. Dovizioso is enjoying his best ride of the year here in 5th.
13:27
UK Time
13/20: Smith's retirement sees Redding and Crutchlow jump up a place. They're running 12th and 13th.
13:26
UK Time
12/20: Lorenzo is running a brilliantly consistent pace at the front. He keeps running low 2m 2secs laps - has Marquez met his match today? The gap at the front is up to 0.4s.
13:25
UK Time
12/20: That promotes Iannone to 6th, who has rode brilliantly from his 4th row start. Pol Espargaro isn't far behind.
13:24
UK Time
11/20: Smith is out of the British GP! He was circulating around in 6th but he's touring along the back of the Hangar Straight. If ever there was a time to have a mechanical! Awful luck for the Englishman.
13:23
UK Time
11/20: Pedrosa isn't making any progress on the leaders. Barring a disaster at the front the best he can do today is 3rd. Rossi and Dovizioso are keeping him very honest.
13:23
UK Time
10/20: The big question at present is whether Marquez is keeping his powder dry. Could a move for the lead be imminent?
13:22
UK Time
10/20: Pedrosa takes Rossi to go 3rd! He goes under at Brooklands at the end of lap 9 - he may have left this too late though as there is 3 seconds of empty road up ahead.
13:21
UK Time
10/20: Rossi is losing further ground - the gap is up to 1.7s. He will have to focus on who is behind him now, Pedrosa is on his rear tyre. Fair play to Dovizioso too, he's hanging in there in 5th.
13:18
UK Time
8/20: Lorenzo's lead is hovering around 0.3s. It remains constant around this lap while Rossi doesn't appear to be able to reel in the front two.
13:17
UK Time
8/20: Pedrosa is up to 4th. Rossi has eked out a few tenths of the Spaniard but Pedrosa looks like he can close in.
13:16
UK Time
7/20: There could be a 7 rider fight for 6th coming up. Smith and Iannone trade blows through Village and the Loop. Pol Espargaro, Bautista and Hernandez are closing in too.
13:15
UK Time
7/20: Lorenzo continues to run his pace. Marquez is following contently at the moment, with 1 second in hand over the chasing Rossi.
13:14
UK Time
6/20: Rossi is through to 3rd after making a cool move on Dovizioso. Pedrosa is next up too.
13:11
UK Time
4/20: Smith, A.Espargaro and Iannone are having a hectic scrap of 6th. Smith is just ahead at the moment.
13:11
UK Time
4/20: Rossi is all over Dovizioso now. He makes a play at Stowe but the Ducati holds him off. He lines him up along the Hangar Straight but the Ducati's speed is such that Rossi isn't close enough to get by.
13:10
UK Time
4/20: Pedrosa is closing in on Rossi. He's taken another tenth out of the Italian meaning this will be a front group of 5 in a couple of minutes.
13:09
UK Time
4/20: Marquez is sitting comfortably in 2nd, he's just letting Lorenzo run his pace at the front. You feel he still has something in hand here.
13:09
UK Time
4/20: The front 4 are more or less together. Pedrosa and Rossi are faster than the top three last time around, the 2nd Repsol Honda has to make up 1 second to Rossi.
13:08
UK Time
3/20: Smith can see a top 6 just ahead. He's closing in on Aleix Espargaro - it's confirmed he's gone with a soft front tyre. That should play into his hands at the start of this race.
13:06
UK Time
3/20: Dovizioso sets the fastest lap on L2 - he isn't letting the front 2 get away. Rossi isn't far behind his fellow countryman either.
13:06
UK Time
3/20: Smith is 7th at the moment, Redding and Crutchlow are battling in 13th and 14th.
13:05
UK Time
2/20: Pedrosa passes Smith and Aleix Espargaro's Forward Yamaha is up next. He goes 5th at Brooklands.
13:05
UK Time
2/20: Lorenzo and Marquez have a gap on Dovizioso in 3rd. Rossi finally disposes with A.Espargaro at Vale.
13:04
UK Time
1/20: A.Espargaro and Dovizioso swap places through the Loop. Rossi takes advantage and goes under Espargaro at Brooklands. He can't hold his line though and is pushed back to 5th through Luffield.
13:03
UK Time
1/20: Rossi gets away well. He's behind Dovizioso in 5th with Smith just behind.
13:03
UK Time
1/20: Pedrosa got a poor getaway, he's 6th. Aleix Espargaro is up to 3rd, passing Dovizioso at Stowe!
13:02
UK Time
1/20: We're off, Marquez gets a great start but Lorenzo goes one better. The Yamaha man leads into T1!
13:01
UK Time
It's a 20 lap race.
13:00
UK Time
Track temperatures are up today. They stand at 29 degrees at the moment. Could that play into Yamaha's hands?
13:00
UK Time
Warm up lap is underway. The grid: Marquez, Dovizioso, Lorenzo - A.Espargaro, Pedrosa, Rossi - Smith, P.Espargaro, Bradl - Iannone, Redding, Bautista.
12:58
UK Time
Leon Camier fell at the end of Q1 yesterday but still impressed on his way to 18th. Michael Laverty put in a solid effort too qualifying 20th on his PBM Aprilia.
12:57
UK Time
Cal Crutchlow starts 15th. It's been a difficult weekend for the Englishman and he'll be aiming for a top 10 finish this afternoon.
12:56
UK Time
Bautista had a big crash this morning. Widely cited to ride Aprilia's MotoGP effort next year, he'll start 12th.
12:56
UK Time
Redding has been in fine form all weekend, consistently outpacing his team-mate on his 'Open' Honda.
12:55
UK Time
Scott Redding has equaled his best qualifying result so far in his rookie season of MotoGP by qualifying in 11th place on the grid. Redding has twice won at his home GP: the 125cc race at Donington in 2008 and the Moto2 race at Silverstone last year.
12:53
UK Time
Andrea Iannone heads the fourth row of the grid in 10th – his worst qualifying result since the Grand Prix of Catalunya, when he started 11th.
12:53
UK Time
Stefan Bradl starts from ninth place on the grid. Bradl won the Moto2 race at Silverstone in 2011 en route to that year’s intermediate class title; this remains the last time that he has stood on the top step of the podium.
12:52
UK Time
In eighth place on the grid is Pol Espargaro, who won the Moto2 race at Silverstone two years ago.
12:52
UK Time
Smith starts 7th. Heading the third row of the grid, he is the highest-placed British rider. Smith and the other British riders will be aiming to improve on the previous best result in the MotoGP class at Silverstone by a British rider, which is sixth by Cal Crutchlow in 2012.
12:52
UK Time
Bradley Smith has looked great this weekend. He was disappointed to get pushed off the 2nd row right at the end of qualifying but he believes having the outside line into T1 could be beneficial at the start.
12:50
UK Time
Rossi starts 6th and is scheduled to set a new outright record of 246 starts in the premier-class of Grand Prix racing when he lines up on the grid at Silverstone.
12:50
UK Time
Valentino Rossi has fought chatter issues all weekend but improved a huge 1.7secs from Friday - Saturday. Should he get away well he could challenge for a podium.
12:49
UK Time
Pedrosa will be aiming to win back-to-back races for the first time since he won at Jerez and Le Mans last year.
12:48
UK Time
Dani Pedrosa starts from 5th, as he did at Brno last time out - a race he won. He could be the man most likely to challenge Marquez at the front today.
12:47
UK Time
Aleix Espargaro is in fourth place on the grid – the seventh time this year he has qualified on the second row.
12:47
UK Time
Lorenzo is also sporting a new helmet design this weekend. Have a look here: https://twitter.com/lorenzo99/status/505327320409059328/photo/1
12:46
UK Time
Jorge Lorenzo has qualified on the front row for the sixth time in 2014. He starts from 3rd.
12:46
UK Time
Of the current grand prix field Jorge Lorenzo is the most successful rider around Silverstone. He's won 3 of the last 4 races here and his battle with Marquez here last year is remembered as a classic.
12:44
UK Time
Dovizioso has finished in the top ten at all 17 races since he crashed out of the race at Silverstone last year - a testament to the Italian's consistency.
12:44
UK Time
If you were rating MotoGP riders' performances in 2014 Andrea Dovizioso would feature somewhere near the top. He starts from 2nd place for the 3rd successive race.
12:43
UK Time
Marquez is aiming to become the first rider since Valentino Rossi in 2005 to win 11 MotoGP races in a single season. The other riders will have a big job to stop that happening.
12:42
UK Time
Having lost his 100% winning record last time out at Brno, Marc Marquez has been hell-bent on restoring order in the MotoGP class this weekend. The Spaniard has dominated free practice and qualifying. He took his 10th pole of 2014 yesterday afternoon.
12:41
UK Time
That was a stunning start to today's race programme. Now onto MotoGP, which starts at 13.00.
12:36
UK Time
A brilliant start to the day. We'll be back in 5 minutes to start the MotoGP build up.
12:23
UK Time
Rabat's win sees him pull further clear in the championship. He (233 points) leads Kallio (216) by 17 points with Vinales (166) 67 back in 3rd. Rabat has responded brilliantly after his disappointing showing at Indianapolis. Both Aegerter (123) and Corsi (100) didn't finish today, allowing Luthi (92) to close in on 4th.
12:20
UK Time
It's champagne time on the podium. Kallio looks slightly despondent while Rabat is jubilant. You have to hand it to Marc VDS - they let the pair fight it out on track, right to the end. The way it should be.
12:19
UK Time
It says something about Franco Morbidelli's season that you're no longer surprised to see him in the top 6. Jumping into this class from Superstock 600 is one hell of a leap but the Italian has showed impressive speed and consistency. Another Italian for the future if his recent form is anything to go by.
12:17
UK Time
Also, kudos to Axel Pons for his top ten finish. The Spaniard had a big smash in qualifying yesterday and fell hard on his left hip. His most impressive ride of the season by some distance.
12:16
UK Time
The cameras were focussed on the front group through that race, meaning we didn't pay much attention to the fight for 8th. We have to commend Syahrin for making his way through a group that included Pasini, Pons, Torres, Simon, Krummenacher, Schrotter, Nakagami, Cardus and Rossi. From Indianapolis onwards the young Malaysian has really caught the eye. A great ride on his first visit to Silverstone.
12:14
UK Time
As for McWilliams he finished a lap down but 29th and a place ahead of Dakota Mamola was a great effort for the grand prix returnee.
12:14
UK Time
Gino Rea enjoyed a fantastic end of the race. He came home 20th after a race long battle with Luis Salom - a podium man in this class in 2014.
12:12
UK Time
Vinales was right. Once he learns how to qualify in Moto2 he'll be really dangerous. It's that lightening pace on used tyres that makes him such an attractive prospect for MotoGP teams.
12:12
UK Time
Lowes looked devastated when he was interviewed. His apologies really weren't necessary. He rode his heart out but he just couldn't find the speed to make moves on the riders in front of him. But once the adrenaline wears off and he analyses the race he'll be able to see that 7th (and racing with the leaders for half the race) was a fantastic effort.
12:10
UK Time
Vinales in 3rd: "We make a really good race, I felt really strong at the end. In the next race I have to qualify better. I qualify shit, Dominique nearly crashed into me. But we were strong at the end at we look forward to Misano."
12:09
UK Time
Lowes after a really strong 7th: "I'm sorry to everyone, I could have done more. I gave it everything. I struggled to make passes as I had no rear grip. I expected more from myself."
12:08
UK Time
The winner, Rabat: "I think it's the best race of my life! I go until the end. I become angry when Vinales and Zarco come past me but I brake late and come home. I'm very, very happy."
12:07
UK Time
Kallio: "I gave everything. I was fast at the beginning and I thought it would be enough. But Tito caught me, I was on the limit. The rear tyre went down and I couldn't improve. In the end I was fast at the start, Tito at the beginning. I'm disappointed, it was a really good race. We are still fighting, anything can happen."
12:06
UK Time
If Sito Pons' expression is anything to go by Vinales will feel he should have won that. Had it not been for an exuberant Zarco he could have caught Kallio by himself. By the time he disposed with the Frenchman the front two had too much in hand. Still, another fantastic ride from the class rookie. Remember, he was nearly taken out on L1!
12:04
UK Time
The final results: Rabat, Kallio, Vinales, Zarco, Luthi, Morbidelli, Lowes, Syahrin, Pasini, Pons, Torres, Simon.
12:03
UK Time
A fantastic start to the day, that was easily the best Moto2 race of the year - a real throwback to the days of Marquez, Bradl, Iannone and Redding in this class. That was quite possibly the finest ride of Rabat's career. What a ride!
12:02
UK Time
18/18: What a ride from Rabat! He held Kallio off through the Loop after the Finn tried to dive under. He held his line around Brooklands and although Kallio tried to go underneath through Luffield he held firm to win - by 0.063 seconds! Vinales couldn't take the top 2, he finished 3rd.
12:01
UK Time
18/18: Rabat wins the British Moto2 race with a stunning ride!
12:00
UK Time
18/18: Kallio has a sniff at the Loop but he can't do it. It's coming down to Brooklands….
12:00
UK Time
18/18: Rabat has timed this to perfection, he has a few tenths in hand...
11:59
UK Time
18/18: Kallio holds it into Stowe but Rabat gets the drive and goes under at Vale! They both go wide, Vinales is poised...
11:59
UK Time
18/18: Last lap! Vinales is on them now too! This is a 3 way shoot out for the win! Kallio leads...
11:58
UK Time
17/18: Change of the lead! Rabat barges by Kallio at Village, just before the Loop with a forceful move! They swap paint through Luffield too and Kallio goes through!
11:58
UK Time
17/18: Rabat is on his team-mate, he's primed to snatch the lead - Vinales is faster than both of them though but he might just have run out of time.
11:57
UK Time
17/18: Kallio's lead is down to 3 tenths! This is going to be close.
11:56
UK Time
16/18: Quick mention for Axel Pons, 11th overall after a really bruising crash yesterday afternoon. A fine ride, that.
11:56
UK Time
16/18: Vinales gets by Zarco again and instantly puts a few tenths into the Frenchman. If he can get in Rabat's slipstream he'll be in with a chance of winning this too!
11:55
UK Time
16/18: Rabat sets the fastest lap on L15! The lead is down to 0.6s - all the momentum is with the Spaniard at the moment and he has 2 and a half laps to win this!
11:54
UK Time
15/18: Gino Rea is inside the top 25, in 23rd. A fine ride from the Londoner.
11:54
UK Time
15/18: Vinales will be cursing Zarco once again. The Frenchman dives under the Spaniard to take 3rd at Copse. Rabat now has some breathing space in 2nd - he's still closing in on the leader too!
11:53
UK Time
15/18: Nakagami hasn't taken advantage of a promising qualifying - he's outside the points in 16th. Cortese will be disappointed with today's effort too, the German sitting in 13th.
11:52
UK Time
14/18: That crash has splintered the fight for 2nd. Rabat, Vinales and Zarco are well clear of Luthi and Morbidelli. Lowes now sits 7th.
11:51
UK Time
14/18: Vinales sets the fastest lap on L13 - the lead is down to 1.3s. The chasing group are visibly closing - this isn't over yet!
11:51
UK Time
13/18: Folger takes out Corsi! That was inevitable I'm afraid. He saw Rabat, Vinales and Zarco pulling clear and ran in to the Loop quickly - too quickly - and rammed Corsi in the process. The Italian is still down, having taken a fairly painful looking shunt there.
11:49
UK Time
13/18: Anytime someone in 2nd has a clear run they take chunks out of Kallio's lead. The problem is there are 6 fast men behind that person, vying to get through. Vinales passes Rabat at Stowe to go 2nd.
11:48
UK Time
13/18: 6 to go and Kallio has this won barring a massive mistake. 7 riders can get 2nd - Lowes has just dropped off the back of this group.
11:48
UK Time
12/18: Great racing for 2nd! Rabat, Zarco and Vinales all swap places through Stowe and Vale - Rabat currently holds 2nd but it's likely to change anytime soon. Kallio will be rubbing his hands together - his lead is up to 2secs.
11:46
UK Time
12/18: Lowes was fighting with Luthi for 8th, the pair have dropped off the back of this group ever so slightly. The Englishman has some work to do to recover that place.
11:46
UK Time
11/18: Rabat goes 2nd, taking Zarco at Brooklands. There is 1.6s between him and the win.
11:45
UK Time
11/18: Outside this 9 rider fight for the win Pasini holds 10th. McWilliams is still racing, albeit at the back of the field.
11:45
UK Time
11/18: Vinales runs off track! He runs on at Maggotts trying to pass Rabat! He rejoins the track in 2nd and subsequently drops back a few places. He's 4th.
11:43
UK Time
10/18: Zarco really is messing with Vinales' flow. He dives under at Village, pushing the Spaniard wide, undoing his good work in the progress. Vinales has to lift up allowing Rabat through.
11:43
UK Time
10/18: We're keeping an eye on Kallio's lead. Vinales has had a clear run in 2nd and he's already taken 0.2 off the Finn in the 1st half of this lap.
11:42
UK Time
10/18: As Kallio leads the battle for 2nd has closed together again - Vinales, Zarco, Rabat, Corsi, Morbidelli, Folger, Lowes and Luthi follow 1.2s behind.
11:41
UK Time
9/18: Zarco has laced his gloves today, anytime he gets passed he instantly responds. You feel it would be more beneficial to follow though. He trades blows with Vinales through Stowe, much to the Spaniard's annoyance. Kallio now has 1.2s in hand.
11:40
UK Time
9/18: Kallio now has 0.9s in hand as Zarco and Vinales fight for 2nd.
11:40
UK Time
8/18: Corsi and Morbidelli and having fun, nearly running into each other at Brooklands. Kallio, Zarco, Vinales and Rabat are breaking clear.
11:39
UK Time
8/18: Maverick Vinales, take a bow! He runs into Vale hot, takes the inside line for Club and stuffs it inside Folger to go 3rd! What a consummate move. He's now 3rd.
11:38
UK Time
8/18: Rabat won't be happy as Vinales goes through to 4th at Copse. He was watching Folger ahead, who went back by Zarco in 2nd.
11:37
UK Time
7/18: But Zarco responds! He isn't in the mood for letting Folger pull clear and retakes 2nd through the infield. All this has given Kallio a few tenths at the front.
11:37
UK Time
7/18: What was I saying about Folger? He goes 2nd at T1 and is already hassling Kallio at the front! He has a look going into Stowe but thinks the better of it.
11:36
UK Time
7/18: Morbidelli, Luthi and Lowes are just starting to lose contact with the top  5. There are some important laps ahead for the trio, especially Lowes who will have his eyes on the top 3.
11:34
UK Time
6/18: Folger is the man to watch in this group. He was all over Zarco through the infield, the German looks poised to move up in the imminent future.
11:34
UK Time
6/18: Kallio out-brakes Zarco into Copse - again! He holds off the Frenchman's advances through Becketts to lead onto the Hangar Straight. You feel he won't hold that place for long though.
11:33
UK Time
5/18: And Folger picks off Rabat at Stowe to take the final podium position! The German also looks well up for this.
11:32
UK Time
5/18: Lowes has been shuffled back to 9th as Morbidelli goes under the Englishman at Vale.
11:32
UK Time
5/18: The top 9: Zarco, Kallio, Rabat, Folger, Corsi, Vinales, Lowes, Morbidelli and Luthi. This is going to be a cracker!
11:31
UK Time
4/18: Folger and Corsi exchange 4th place through the Loop, allowing Zarco and the Marc VDS boys to eke out 2/3 tenths.
11:30
UK Time
4/18: Change of the lead again! Zarco puts a tough move on Kallio at Stowe, having trailed him down the Hangar Straight. The group closes together with Rabat fancying a sniff of 2nd.
11:29
UK Time
4/18: Lowes has settled down and retaken 6th from Vinales. We have a lead group of 9 riders at the moment - Kallio and Zarco aren't getting away!
11:29
UK Time
3/18: Zarco is in the mood today! He re-takes the lead through the Loop but Kallio instantly responds, going back under the Frenchman at Brooklands. Great racing.
11:28
UK Time
3/18: Rabat starts to make his play at Vale! He goes under Corsi to 3rd as he sees Kallio and Zarco inching ahead at the front.
11:27
UK Time
3/18: Vinales has recovered brilliantly. He goes under Lowes at T1 to go 6th having set the fastest lap on L2.
11:26
UK Time
2/18: We're seeing replays of Aegerter's spill. He was far too optimistic entering Vale, braked far too late and ran into the back of Vinales. The Spaniard wasn't harmed by the smash though, he's recovered to 7th.
11:25
UK Time
2/18: Dakota Mamola has crashed on lap 1 but he's back up on and circulating at the back of the pack.
11:25
UK Time
2/18: Change of the lead! Kallio goes under Zarco at T1 with a fantastic out-braking move.
11:24
UK Time
1/18: Luthi runs wide through Luffield allowing the fast-starting Morbidelli through into 7th.
11:24
UK Time
1/18: Lowes has gained 1 place, he's 6th at present, behind Rabat and Folger.
11:23
UK Time
1/18: Cortese runs wide through Becketts and is shuffled down the order - Aegerter is down too, crashing out at Vale!
11:22
UK Time
1/18: The lights go out, Zarco gets a flyer and leads into T1! Kallio follows with Corsi and Folger close behind.
11:21
UK Time
We have 18 laps of Moto2 racing ahead of us. Can Kallio respond to Rabat's win in Brno and close in on his championship lead?
11:20
UK Time
The warm up lap is underway. Here’s the grid: Zarco, Kallio, Corsi – Rabat, Folger, Luthi – Lowes, Vinales, Cortese – Morbidelli, Pons, Nakagami – Simon, Pasini, Rossi
11:19
UK Time
Keep you eyes on Domi Aegerter, uncharacteristically starting from the 7th row, and Nakagami, starting from 12th. The Japanese came close to winning here last year.
11:18
UK Time
McWilliams will start from 34th and the 12th row, a place behind Dakota Mamola who is deputising for Nico Terol in Aspar’s Mapfre team.
11:18
UK Time
Gino Rea did well to qualify his Suter 26th after a trying weekend which has involved a few spills.
11:18
UK Time
In 33rd place on the grid is Grand Prix debutant Dakota Mamola, whose father Randy won the 500cc British GP at Silverstone in 1980.
11:17
UK Time
Vinales starts from 8th - he could be a dark horse for the podium - ahead of Sandro Cortese who had a fast get-off yesterday afternoon.
11:16
UK Time
Anyone at Silverstone yesterday witnessed an ugly crash involving Tetsuta Nagashima. The Japanese rider broke his right leg and fractured his right hip so obviously won’t be competing today. There are fears that his injuries could prematurely curtail his season too.
11:16
UK Time
Tom Luthi, who finished third last year in the Moto2 race at Silverstone and really should have won the 2010 event, starts from sixth place.
11:15
UK Time
Jonas Folger has qualified in fifth place on the grid. Folger won the 125cc race at Silverstone in 2011 – his first ever win in Grand Prix racing.
11:15
UK Time
Tito Rabat wasn't happy to be off the front row - it's just the 2nd time he hasn't started from the front this year. He starts today's race 4th.
11:14
UK Time
Simone Corsi is in third place on the grid – his first front row start since the final race of last year in Valencia and only his 5th in the past 5 seasons!
11:14
UK Time
Starting from second place on the grid is Mika Kallio, who has finished on the podium at the last four successive Moto2 races.
11:12
UK Time
Yesterday saw another first - A Frenchman on pole position in Moto2! Johann Zarco, who has been one of the stand-out performers all weekend, rode to his first pole in grand prix since 2011.
11:10
UK Time
Judging by his comments yesterday he’ll be aiming for the podium today.
11:10
UK Time
The Englishman came agonisingly close to winning the WSS race here last year and was actually quite disappointed to be starting back on the 3rd row.
11:09
UK Time
Sam Lowes has looked strong all weekend – placing in and around the top 6 in free practice. He’s the highest place Brit on the grid today and will start from 7th.
11:09
UK Time
McWilliams was of course the British rider that came closest to winning the British MotoGP in modern times in 2000. He’ll do well to get inside the top-25 today.
11:08
UK Time
It was a big relief to hear Jeremy has been passed fit to ride in today’s race.
11:08
UK Time
It was announced just last week that McWilliams would ride the experimental Brough Superior chassis in the intermediate category. And he’s qualified for the race too, despite 2 falls in qualifying yesterday.
11:08
UK Time
And for fans of a certain age they’ll be excited to hear Jeremy McWilliams is making his 1st Grand Prix appearance since 2007 in the Moto2 race – at 50 years of age!
11:06
UK Time
With Redding, Smith, Lowes, McPhee and Kent all looking strong this weekend there is a good chance of seeing another Brit in the top 3 in one of the races today.
11:05
UK Time
The track has been a happy stomping ground for home riders in the past too. 12 local men have stood on the podium at Silverstone & 2 of those have won; Ian McConnachie and Scott Redding.
11:05
UK Time
And the winners on that day in 1977 I hear you ask? Pat Hennen won his second GP in the 500 class while Kork Ballington came home with the 250 and 350 trophies. Pierluigi Conforti’s Morbidelli was triumphant in the 125 class.
11:04
UK Time
We returned in 2010 to the current 5.9km layout. Although increasingly bumpy in 2014, most riders still cite it as one of the calendar’s best.
11:04
UK Time
There are few circuits that conjure a sense of nostalgia like Silverstone, making today's event all the more exciting. Replacing the Isle of Man TT as the venue for the British GP in 1977, the track went on to host the event for 10 years before the switch to Donington Park.
11:03
UK Time
There is a different running order to tell you about. Moto2 will get us underway today at 11.20GMT with MotoGP following that at 13.00. The frantic excitement of Moto3 brings the day to a close at 14.30.
11:02
UK Time
Thankfully the sun graces us with its presence today. Temperatures are up and it seems we'll have three dry (and warm) races!
11:02
UK Time
Whether you’re reading this from a church pew, frustrated at not being able to attend, or you’re standing at the grandstand at Woodcote and can’t see the action at the back of the track, we’ll have all the action in what promises to be a fantastic day of racing.
11:01
UK Time

Lorenzo seemed very satisfied with his qualifying effort. Considering the strides he made today a few more changes tomorrow morning could see him on Marquez's pace. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a repeat of last year's action!
15:05
UK Time
In pit lane Redding says, "I hope to hold on and fight with the big boys tomorrow" while Bradley Smith says, "I'm disappointed to get pipped on the line like I did. I saw Valentino push me back but looking at it 7th might be a blessing in disguise, it'll be better to roll around the outside at turn one."
15:04
UK Time
You can tell when a rider is feeling positive and Dovizioso certainly looked that in parc ferme. He and the Ducati squad have found some valuable momentum and you have to say it's richly deserved for his perseverance.
15:00
UK Time
Here is Dovizioso: "We work really good during the last 3 races. This is the result. On the front row with the race tyre. We know we can't keep this position in the race but we are getting closer and closer."
15:00
UK Time
3rd place Lorenzo: "It was almost impossible to solve almost all our problems. With the hard rear it's difficult to ride. We improve a little everywhere, I push 100 percent, the lap was good and I'm satisfied. We don't have the best set up and we must improve a little bit more to use the hard front tyre."
14:58
UK Time
Marquez: "After the crash I was careful. We couldn't beat the record but this year the track is slower. I feel so good and safe and the rhythm is fine for tomorrow. I wait for good weather and I'll try to fight for the victory."
14:57
UK Time
Redding was eventually pushed back to 11th - his joint best qualifying of the year. He still went 1.5 seconds faster than Bautista.
14:56
UK Time
Fair play to Cal. It must be painful to watch his team-mate qualify on the front as he struggles in 15th but he remains in positive spirits despite a dispiriting weekend so far.
14:55
UK Time
Crutchlow in pit lane: "2nd tyre had a vibration problem. Don't get me wrong, even if we had a better tyre I wouldn't have qualified on the front row."
14:54
UK Time
The top 12 will line up as: Marquez, Dovizioso, Lorenzo - A.Espargaro, Pedrosa, Rossi - Smith, P.Espargaro, Bradl - Iannone, Redding, Bautista.
14:53
UK Time
We're seeing replays of Iannone's spill. He lost the front coming out of the Loop, onto the Wellington Straight. That was a costly spill as he'll start tomorrow from 10th.
14:53
UK Time
Ducati look delighted with Dovizioso. And rightly so. What a qualifying run he's on - that's his 3rd consecutive front row start.
14:51
UK Time
…and Rossi goes 6th - Smith is now 7th.
14:51
UK Time
Dovizioso climbs to 2nd, pushing Aleix Espargaro off the front row. Rossi is 8th at the moment, he needs something as he comes through Luffield...
14:50
UK Time
…and the reigning champion takes 0.3s off Lorenzo's best to go top. Iannone has fallen by the way, he won't improve on 9th place.
14:49
UK Time
And Lorenzo temporarily grabs pole…I say temporarily as Marquez is 2 tenths faster through sector 3...
14:49
UK Time
Smith goes 3rd!
14:49
UK Time
Aleix Espargaro goes 2nd! A fantastic end of the lap for the Spaniard.
14:48
UK Time
We have 6 riders on flyers - Lorenzo, Iannone and Pol Espargaro are all on potential pole laps.
14:48
UK Time
Pedrosa is on a flying lap but he isn't going to improve as he comes through the 3rd split. Aleix Espargaro could jump to the 2nd row if his times through sectors 1 and 2 are anything to go by.
14:46
UK Time
To underline Redding's performance at the moment - 0.85s slower than Marquez around an 18-corner track. Impressive.
14:46
UK Time
It looks as though last year's pole record and the absolute circuit record of 2m 0.691s won't be under threat this afternoon. We have the bumpy surface and cooler conditions to thank for that.
14:45
UK Time
The order with 5 minutes to go: Mar, Dov, Lor, Ros, Ped, Ian, EsP, Red, EsA, Smi, Brd, Bau.
14:44
UK Time
Iannone goes 6th, ahead of Pol Espargaro and Scott Redding, who is 1.6s faster than his team-mate in 12th.
14:43
UK Time
8 minutes to go. Pedrosa is in pit lane changing his rubber having only completed one flyer while Lorenzo comes into the pits now.
14:42
UK Time
Marquez puts in a 2m 1.259, good enough for 1st by three whole tenths! The Spaniard is going to take some beating today.
14:42
UK Time
Rossi jumps up to 3rd from 9th - a fine effort on a track at which Rossi has yet to stand the podium.
14:41
UK Time
That was a 1 lap wonder from Dovizioso. Lorenzo is on a personal best while Marquez is on a potential pole lap as he skates his way through Vale-Club.
14:40
UK Time
Pedrosa, Iannone and Pol Espargaro follow in 4th, 5th and 6th.
14:40
UK Time
Here comes Marquez and his lap is only good enough for 3rd, behind Lorenzo.
14:40
UK Time
It looks as though Lorenzo is holding Dovizioso up through the Loop - the Ducati man goes top straight away with a 2m 1.5s lap - the fastest time of the weekend!
14:38
UK Time
In case you're wondering what the English clouds look like: https://twitter.com/BorjaGonzalezG/status/505710536500453376/photo/1
14:38
UK Time
Lorenzo is pushing from the off, seemingly worried by the dark clouds very near on the horizon. The #99, Dovizioso and Iannone all run in tandem.
14:36
UK Time
As is so often the case, Lorenzo leads the pack out with Dovizioso tucked in close behind.
14:35
UK Time
Q2 is underway. We'll know the pole sitter in just under 15 minutes time.
14:35
UK Time
Crutchlow was on for climbing at least 1 place higher in that session. He'll be cursing some of the traffic that was lurking around the final sector of the track.
14:33
UK Time
Laverty was very close to qualifying as the best Aprilia, just 1 place and 0.08s off Petrucci. The Northern Irishman was a full 1.3 seconds quicker than his team-mate in that session too.
14:32
UK Time
Another strong showing from Leon Camier - he finished that session just 1 tenth down on team-mate Aoyama.
14:31
UK Time
Crutchlow doesn't look pleased on his ride back to the pits. It has been another difficult weekend for the Ducati man but he can take solace from the fact that he isn't injured for tomorrow's race - unlike the last 2 years at this track.
14:30
UK Time
Grid places from 13th onwards have been determined. They are: Hernandez, Abraham, Crutchlow - Aoyama, de Angelis, Camier - Petrucci, Laverty, Barbera - di Meglio, Parkes.
14:28
UK Time
So Redding and Bautista go through to Q2. Another stunning effort from Redding and he acknowledges the crowd on his slow-down lap.
14:28
UK Time
Abraham goes to 4th, Laverty stays 10th.
14:27
UK Time
Abraham and Laverty are both on personal bests…it doesn't look like they'll trouble the top 2.
14:26
UK Time
The chequered flag is out - Hernandez tried his best but he couldn't make any inroads on the top 2. He'll start from 13th on the grid tomorrow.
14:26
UK Time
Here comes Redding - he does another 2m 2.6s lap to demonstrate he can do the times without a tow from his team-mate.
14:25
UK Time
Camier is down! He slipped off at the end FP2 yesterday and he's down at Village, the quick left before the tight complex. HE won't improve on 8th in this session.
14:24
UK Time
Crutchlow was on a flyer but he aborted his lap when he sees Barbera lurking for a tow. He throws his hand up in frustration in the Spaniard's direction. He has 1 minute to improve.
14:23
UK Time
By the way the official MotoGP twitter feed is confirming Redding's top speed was 45kph slower than his team-mate - 45kph!
14:22
UK Time
Crutchlow starts his flyer. He has 7 tenths to make up on the Gresini Hondas and a place in Q2.
14:21
UK Time
Riders have been in and out of the pits to change rubber. Redding is out on his out lap at present.
14:20
UK Time
5 to go in Q1. Here's the order so far: Red, Bau, Her, Cru, Abr, Aoy, deA, Cam, Lav, Bar, Pet, DiM, Par.
14:19
UK Time
Laverty climbs to 9th in this session with a 2m 4.9s lap, 8 tenths faster than his free practice best. Not bad with drops of rain sprinkling around the track!
14:19
UK Time
Abraham is 5th ahead of Aoyama, de Angelis and Camier.
14:18
UK Time
…and Redding goes fastest with a 2m 2.6s lap! That's 0.06s faster than his team-mate and 0.7s faster than his best FP time. Not a bad effort from the 21-year old.
14:17
UK Time
Bautista and Redding are on a 2nd flyer - both are in line to go fastest as they enter the 3rd sector...
14:16
UK Time
It only takes a casual glance in Crutchlow's direction to see he isn't comfortable on track. He's trying though - he puts the 4th fastest time in, just behind Hernandez.
14:15
UK Time
Bautista and Redding are out on track together. Bautista goes top, Redding 2nd.
14:15
UK Time
Here comes Hernandez - he really is spectacular coming through Woodcote - and he sets an excellent early marker. A 2m 3.1s lap. Will that be enough to see him through?
14:14
UK Time
Hernandez is on a quick one already. Surely it will be beneficial to get an early time in with the chances of rain increasing high.
14:14
UK Time
We have spits of rain falling in pit lane, marshals are showing the white flag with the red cross indicating this to the riders. Colin Edwards in the commentary box says, "Man am I glad I'm not riding!"
14:13
UK Time
It's worth noting that Scott Redding ended Friday in 6th - a splendid effort considering this track contains two lengthy straights. He qualified for Q2 for the 1st time at Indianapolis. A strong home crowd are hoping he can do the same today.
14:11
UK Time
The 15-minute Q1 session is underway. Yonny Hernandez leads a gaggle of 6 riders onto the track.
14:09
UK Time
By the way, if you haven’t seen Scott Redding’s new attire for his home grand prix have a look here: https://twitter.com/bennetts_bike/status/505652078254239744/photo/1 It gets two thumbs up from this end!
14:09
UK Time
The Q1 participants in full: Her, Bau, Red, Abr, Cru, Aoy, deA, Cam, Lav, Pet, Bar, diM, Par.
14:09
UK Time
Lucio Cecchinello is speaking in pit lane. He says that Bradl is "a little bit down" after his 2 crashes today and the cause of each spill remains a mystery to the German. He confirms Bradl has the potential to finish inside the top 5.
14:07
UK Time
That means Hernandez, Bautista, Redding and Crutchlow will battle it out for those 2 spots in Q1 that will qualify them to Q2.
14:07
UK Time
Looking at free practice times the 10 to qualify for Q2 are: Marquez, Dovizioso, Pedrosa, Rossi, Lorenzo, P.Espargaro, Bradl, Smith, Iannone and A.Espargaro.
14:07
UK Time
Riders have been complaining of the bumpy surface around the Silverstone layout and indeed the super-slow motion replays have shown front tyres skipping and bouncing in corner entry and mid corner. It has already caught out Stefan Bradl twice today, the German walking away from both crashes.
14:05
UK Time
As if to confirm that he just topped the recently-finished FP4 session from Dovizioso, Pedrosa and Rossi.
14:04
UK Time
The championship leader also had to contend with a rare front-end crash this morning, suffered at The Loop. Marquez walked gingerly away from the spill but should be fine to compete this afternoon.
14:03
UK Time
Marquez set a ferocious pace yesterday but the rest have gradually been closing in on his times so far today. Can he get his 10th pole of 2014 this afternoon?
14:02
UK Time
But the Yamaha pair and Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa made massive improvements in FP3. Rossi skimmed 1.7 seconds of his Friday best this morning!
14:02
UK Time
Lorenzo will have a job on his hands to repeat a front row feat today. He and team-mate Rossi had a day to forget on Friday.
14:02
UK Time
In that instance the outright circuit record was blitzed 4-5 times in the space of ten minutes as both riders vied for that crucial Saturday psychological advantage.
14:01
UK Time
If last year’s epic qualifying face-off between Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo is anything to go by, the Q2 session will be essential afternoon viewing.
14:00
UK Time
We have live coverage of both sessions for you. Q1 starts at 14.10 GMT, Q2 at 14.35.
13:59
UK Time
We’re at a blustery but dry Silverstone for qualifying that will determine the grid for tomorrow's MotoGP event.
13:59
UK Time
Good afternoon and welcome back to Crash.net’s live coverage of the British Grand Prix.
15:01
UK Time
After today it's clear that Marc Marquez will take some beating but with British riders looking good in each class there is plenty of reason for optimism. We'll be back tomorrow to bring you coverage of MotoGP qualifying at 2pm. Join us then!
14:59
UK Time
It's difficult to look past Smith and Redding as most impressive riders of the day but Bradl (2nd) and Hernandez (5th) have really impressed with their pace.
14:57
UK Time
They will be scratching their heads in the Movistar Yamaha garage. 11th and 13th certainly isn't where Lorenzo and Rossi expected to be.
14:56
UK Time
Crutchlow was 14th fastest with Camier 17th and Michael Laverty 20th.
14:55
UK Time
The final places from FP2: Marquez, Bradl, Dovizioso, Smith, Hernandez, Redding, Iannone, Bautista, Pedrosa, A.Espargaro, Lorenzo, P.Espargaro and Rossi.
14:54
UK Time
Well, there are more reasons to be happy if you're British. Both Bradley Smith and Scott Redding really impressed in that session and their final places inside the top six will be a great encouragement before Qualifying tomorrow.
14:53
UK Time
Dovizioso improves to push Smith down to 4th.
14:52
UK Time
Marquez catches Bradl and Abraham in the wrong place - through the Brooklands/Luffield section - and his lap goes away from him as a result. Rossi improves his time, he's 13th overall.
14:51
UK Time
The chequered flag is out, Pedrosa's time goes away from him, as does Lorenzo's. Smith confirms his 3rd best time.
14:51
UK Time
Pedrosa, Lorenzo, Marquez and Rossi are all on personal bests...
14:50
UK Time
We're hearing Camier did crash but the rider is ok.
14:50
UK Time
Just 1 minute to go but it doesn't look like we have many fast laps, although Marquez has just crossed the line to do 1 more lap.
14:49
UK Time
Redding goes up to 6th! He really looks in the mood today and he now sits 1 place ahead of team-mate Bautista - on a 'Factory' RC213V!
14:48
UK Time
The factory Ducatis are lapping together, both improve in time but not place. Dovizioso stays 4th, Crutchlow 14th.
14:47
UK Time
Hernandez goes 5th while Redding improves to go 11th. The times are close between Smith in 3rd - just 0.6s go all the way back to Redding in 12th.
14:46
UK Time
Camier is off his machine! He's walking back to the pits, accompanied by a marshal. We're yet to see whether he went down the road but his session is over.
14:45
UK Time
Smith improves again to go 3rd! Iannone and Pedrosa go 5th and 6th too.
14:44
UK Time
Bradl is going really well - he's 0.2 off Marquez's fastest time after 3 sectors and improves dramatically on his previous best. His 2m 2.6s is just 0.5s slower than the top time. Dovizioso is 0.6s slower in 3rd.
14:43
UK Time
Smith, de Angelis and Pedrosa are all on personal bests… Smith goes 4th, Pedrosa 9th and de Angelis 13th.
14:42
UK Time
Crutchlow is just behind Hernandez in 14th with 8 minutes to go.
14:41
UK Time
Rossi is continuing on the hard rear tyre but he isn't troubling Marquez's time at the moment. Perhaps he has already made his mind up as to what tyre to use on Sunday and is using this as a test run.
14:40
UK Time
Pedrosa is pushing hard but it's not quite working for him at the moment… He's pushing on through Maggotts but runs in to Beckets too hot and has to pick up and run off track. He'll have to wait to improve on his time, he's still 11th.
14:38
UK Time
Most of the top 10 are in pit lane, fitting some new tyres. Expect some quick laps to come soon.
14:38
UK Time
13 minutes of this session remain. The order looks like this: Marquez, Bradl, Dovizioso, Lorenzo, P.Espargaro, A.Espargaro, Iannone, Smith, Rossi, Redding, Pedrosa, Bautista, Hernandez.
14:35
UK Time
The camera pans in on Pedrosa in his garage. You sense he's already feeling some frustration at sitting 11th, 1.9s down on his team-mate.
14:35
UK Time
With nearly two thirds of this session complete Leon Camier can consider this a good day's work. He's 17th, 1 place ahead of team-mate Aoyama.
14:34
UK Time
It looked as though Lorenzo was on his way to 2nd place but he lost over half a second through the final sector. He improves to go 4th (and fastest Yamaha) but there is still the small matter of 1.3s to make up to Marquez in 1st.
14:32
UK Time
All the top 11 riders have improved on their best times from this morning. Bautista and Hernandez in 12th & 13th are waiting to go faster this afternoon.
14:31
UK Time
The Tech 3 Yamahas are circulating together at the moment - Smith puts a few quick laps in back-to-back. He goes 1 better than Lorenzo to go 7th. Pol Espargaro is still 4th.
14:30
UK Time
The time sheets make for sobering viewing for the Movistar Yamaha squad at present. Lorenzo's best is 1.6s slower than Marquez, Rossi 2 tenths slower than his team-mate.
14:28
UK Time
Iannone looks to be going fast through Luffield - and he improves to go 5th!
14:27
UK Time
Just for the record Marquez's last lap was 2m 2.1s. Bradl now sits 1.05s behind.
14:27
UK Time
Wow…Marquez really lays down a marker - he exits Woodcote out of shape and betters his previous best by 1 full second! That's incredible.
14:26
UK Time
At the moment the top three have a commanding advantage on the rest. Dovizioso in 3rd is 0.3s up on Pol Espargaro.
14:23
UK Time
Just another quick word on Redding. He's keeping some esteemed company in the top ten at present in 7th. The next fastest Production Honda is Karel Abraham in 15th.
14:22
UK Time
Marquez's fastest time from this morning was 2m 3.2s. He's already bettered that by a full tenth of a second. Bradl is just 0.046s behind.
14:21
UK Time
Smith is 11th, Crutchlow 13th.
14:21
UK Time
We're 15 minutes into FP2 with 30 still to play. The top 10: Marquez, Bradl, Dovizioso, A.Espargaro, Lorenzo, Rossi, Redding, P.Espargaro, Pedrosa and Iannone.
14:19
UK Time
It's great to see 5 Brits competing in MotoGP this weekend - the highest number since the mid-90s. We have already mentioned Redding, Smith and Crutchlow. But what of Camier and Laverty? The Honda man is 17th while Laverty is 20th, ahead of Aoyama.
14:17
UK Time
Wow! Redding is fired up this weekend, he's up to 5th - on a customer Honda, at a track which includes the Hangar and Wellington Straights. Fantastic effort from the 21 year old.
14:16
UK Time
Cal Crutchlow hasn't enjoyed the best of luck at Silverstone in the past 3 years. He's looking to put that right - he's following Marquez around at the moment and is sitting to 13th at the moment.
14:15
UK Time
Dovizioso's time at the top was brief…Marquez topples that with a 2m 3.1s time. Bradl isn't lapping far behind and goes 2nd. Redding is hanging in there though, he now sits 10th.
14:14
UK Time
Scott Redding has an enviable record around Silverstone. His last 2 results around here were 2nd and 1st and he's sitting 8th at the moment.
14:13
UK Time
Lorenzo now goes into 4th. Pol Espargaro, Rossi and Smith follow.
14:12
UK Time
Marquez jumps to 2nd with Bradl slotting into 3rd. The times are tumbling fast!
14:12
UK Time
Dovizioso is looking really good already. He slashes 0.7s off his fastest time with a 2m 3.2s…almost the fastest time of the day.
14:11
UK Time
Lorenzo will be looking to improve on this morning's showing. He slots in behind Dovizioso in 2nd.
14:10
UK Time
Dovizioso goes straight to the top of the pile with a 2m 3.9s. The Espargaro brothers are next up with Pol leading Aleix at the moment.
14:09
UK Time
As the riders complete their out-lap we're seeing pictures of Aoyama being pushed away by the marshals. That looks like an early machine problem - not the way you want to start your Friday afternoon.
14:06
UK Time
The 45-minute session is underway.
14:05
UK Time
And in case you missed Moto3 FP2… Danny Kent is continuing his recent resurgence, posting the fastest Friday time. That bodes well for the British riders competing this weekend.
14:05
UK Time
There were drops of rain falling at the start of Moto3 FP2. Although the wind is blowing we should have a dry 45-minute session today.
14:04
UK Time
In fact times in FP1 made a mockery of the claim that Silverstone is a Yamaha track. The factory Yamahas of Lorenzo (+1.032) and Rossi (+1.073) were a distant 7th and 8th overall.
14:04
UK Time
Marquez's response in the Monday test in the Czech Republic was ominous. As was his performance this morning. He had a second in hand over the fastest Yamaha -Aleix Espargaro - and was a full 0.6s faster than 2nd place Iannone.
14:03
UK Time
And speaking of Marquez, it’ll be interesting to see how he responds to his 1st defeat of the season (and his first-non podium finish in MotoGP!!), suffered last time out at Brno.
14:03
UK Time
The track has served up plenty of classics in its time. The Roberts - Sheene duel in 1979 is still cited as one of British sport’s most memorable moments. Anyone that saw last year’s Lorenzo vs Marquez scrap won’t be forgetting that in a hurry either.
14:03
UK Time
A favourite with many of the riders, the two long straights and flowing sweeps through Maggotts and Beckets lend themselves to fantastic racing.
14:02
UK Time
The current 18-corner layout has changed somewhat from the initial Silverstone design that riders raced in the late 70s but it has retained many of its fast, flowing characteristics.
14:02
UK Time
The 45-minute FP2 is due to get underway in just under 3 minutes, at 14.05 GMT.
14:01
UK Time
And we have a full programme for you to follow. We’ll bring you live coverage of Friday afternoon’s FP2 session as well as Saturday’s MotoGP qualifying and all three grand prix on Sunday.
14:01
UK Time
It’s the biggest event on the British two-wheel calendar and we’re back at the new Silverstone for the fifth year on the bounce for a full weekend of grand prix action.
14:00
UK Time
Good afternoon and welcome to the start of Crash.net’s coverage of the British Grand Prix.
