Nicky Hayden claimed a 2009 best of fourth on the grid for Sunday’s German Grand Prix - on his spare bike and despite a dramatic mid-air collision with Niccolo Canepa.

And that crash into Canepa was pretty unfortunate. I wondered how someone can launch forward into a rider in front of them. I know that Canepa was turning into Hayden's airborne flight path. But you also notice that Canepa was going much slower, and that a millisecond before Hayden shoulder blocked him, Canepa was starting to stand the bike up mid corner. Just an unfortunate 'perfect storm'. And Hayden was admittedly going too fast for the conditions.
