Yes it is speculation - and so is calling Rossi the GOAT. If he raced his whole career on a 500 chances are he'd have had more accidents than he has had. In fact he's probably the only rider who has never had a serious injury - coincidentaly when the change from 2strokes happenned, he crashed a lot more often on the 500.

If the 800s with all their electronics are so close and such a great show then why the constant call to go back to 500s? The answer is the 500s were animals and a whole different league to anything that's come since - be it 990s or 800s. They can't be compared to todays bikes the same as the racers can't be compared.
