The REAL reason DORNA keeps switching displacement is competition from WSBK. During the 90's WSBK had more viewers than GP. So DORNA copied their 1000 4-stroke rules. Hayden's championship got DORNA scared because it meant their 2-stroke support classes no longer mattered. So they copy WSBK's supersport 600 class, and meanwhile drop down to 800cc which we all knew would give 250 veterans an advantage, which made DORNA riders look better than WSBK. Now that moto2 riders have 4-stroke experience DORNA feels safe going back to 1000cc (copying superstock) where DORNA riders on superstock bikes will train alongside factory riders. What will Dorna do when a superstocker beats the 800s?
