Smith made a point of attributing the difference in performance with his team mate Di Meglio to his crew chief, Tom Jojic. Di Meglio is no slouch and it just goes to show that in such a competitive class, poor set up means going from hero to zero overnight. Redding's sudden improvement in form last year was due to a change in the frame/set up, and his lack of results at the beginning of this season is also due to set up issues. Smith showed a lot of maturity by insisting on having someone with Jojic's experience as part of his contract. While the spec engines should've lessened the difference between riders, ironically, just a small advantage in the frame and/or set up actually means the difference between competing for podium places and struggling back in midfield or worse.
