If people don't enjoy watching riders dicing and overtaking unless it's for first position, then why watch at all? I love the sport, so to see the likes of Vinales and Oliviera cut their teeth in GP racing is a big part of the enjoyment. Anyone who wasn't excited by the battle between Lorenzo and Rossi at Motegi last year, simply because it was for third, isn't really a race fan at all. Even watching a rider setting fast laps on his own is exciting. Take a snapshot of an F1 car flat out through a bend and it looks static - it might as well be parked - but a photo of a rider and bike at full lean angle, or wheeling out of a corner, is dynamic - it looks, and IS precarious, on a tightrope, visibly seeking the limit, close to the ragged edge....
