I think there are a few things to consider if that is the case.

The CF Duc does have potential and given limited testing they need as much input as possible.

That input may be more valuable from Nicky. He had been getting better on the Duc and has better results than Vale historically anyway. It was probably a mistake putting him on the failed Flex package bike built for Rossi and not riding the Valencia chassis like Rossi was from Quatar.

Stoner deserves more credit for the results he achieved.

For all that Ducati has thrown at the GP? this year they are not improving at a rate that can truly compete with their Japanese counterparts. It will take a superhuman effort by the rider to close the engineering gap that will always exist.
