Ben seems to no longer be struggling in 11th during practices, and has managed a 5th instead of double digits. He is visually more comfortable (though not comfortable) and is taking risks where needed (passing Pedrobot) and damage control elsewhere (last race's tire issue).

I'm not saying he will storm the castle every week, I'm saying he is almost riding like himself again, which is to say a methodical fast machine. Is he the fastest? - sometimes, but not usually. Is he consistent? - getting there again.

The start is 6 races ago, but I'd say the last 2 races have been more on par with Spies ability. Yes he crashed, all racers do, but he had the pace and the desire. So the start of the year would be the first 4 races where he considerably failed to meet his mark, a 5th is not terrible - if you have other points to carry you - which he doesn't.
