Factually speaking, Rossi tried that Ducati setting in 2011. He didn't like it as it didn't provide any additional comfort/feedback. He did reuse the setting this season, but it wasn't some revolutionary discovery. He just adjusted his riding style to compensate a bit (..obviously not enough however).

What Valentino said and what "actually" happened are plausibly two different things. The sequences of events lead me to believe that Rossi's decision was firmly in place before Nicky was offered a contract renewal. We can agree to disagree though. :)
