I want to add a point about equal team mates. JL's new contract for 2010 included data sharing. He knew Rossi had an advantage over him and wanted a chance to compete on an even playing field. He didn't say "I am the future, Rossi must go". He just wanted the same advantage Vale had, knowing where a close rival was strongest and weakest on the track.

Vale decided that rather than hand over his data "Jorge should find his own way" and put an end to data sharing. In 2010 Jorge missed preseason testing due to injury. Suffered at Qatar from his injuries and was on the back foot at the start of the season while "finding his own way". he still quickly got up to form and had Rossi's measure.

Yamaha allowing data sharing, "Him or me", pay cuts all had to bother Vale and he jumped to Ducati. Jorge is clearly confident he will beat Rossi head to head in an equal environment.
