We can talk about the compounds of the tires all we want, but in truth the carcass of the tire is the determining factor in how it works with the bike. As the carcass gets stiffer, the harder it is to get heat into the tire, but the tire wears better, but alas the contact patch shrinks. As the carcass gets softer, the contact patch grows, the heat rises (more internal friction) but the tire breaks down quicker. And you lose feeling in the front end(ala Ducati).
