StudentDave, it's called 'closed loop' or sometimes 'feedback' or even 'active' control.
I am the techie type and I can tell you that to correct something, it is very advantageous to know where it is, how fast it is going, what angle or temperature etc, it's at in the first place.
Combine this with a high speed microprocessor and you'e on your way to becoming a motoGP electronics expert.
I'm surprised you have as many opinions as you do without a basic understanding but I'm glad to be of help.
