The CMO does make the decision as to their fitness to ride, but I agree that once that decision has been made the rider shoudl still make the final call.. When both JLo and DP rode injured they rode well within themselves.

I have said it before and will repeat it. If a top rider has a concern about another rider then he should have the means to communicate that concern. They are the experts and know far better than you or I will ever know. You can argue that it should all be done behind the scenes, and that the stewards must also take into account the conflict of interests.

If you look at any documentary/reports on accidents involving loss of life (Piper Alpha, Shuttles etc.) then it is almost always the case that someone knew that there was a serious problem, but the channels of communication didn't exist to get the information out in the open. The same principle applies to this life threatening activity.
