James Toseland is confident he can make a positive start to his 2009 MotoGP campaign with a strong showing during the first pre-season test of the year at Sepang.

Toseland begins the countdown to his sophomore MotoGP season with the Tech 3 Yamaha in Malaysia, where he and 16 other riders will be on track to give the first indication of how the 2009 form book will be written.

For Toseland, a good performance at Sepang is crucial for him after a crashing out of the Malaysian Grand Prix last season, the Brit describing it as 'one of the biggest disappointments' of his rookie year.

Nonetheless, a refreshed Toseland is looking forward to getting back on the bike after the long winter period and is eager to work on the flashes of promise he showed in 2008.

"Crashing out of the Sepang race at such an early stage in my debut season was one of my biggest disappointments of 2008 and for that reason I'm looking forward to the forthcoming test, he said.

"I thought that I had found a good setting last year, but will be working hard at the test to ensure that I have the maximum set-up and I'll be running as many race simulations as possible.

"Sepang is a long and technical track, which is made even more difficult by the hot and humid weather conditions. I'm looking forward to getting back on the bike and pushing myself to be the best that I can be."
