125: Vazquez quickest at Valencia

Efren Vazquez overcame a spectacular fall during 125cc testing at Valencia to claim the quickest lap time at the end of day one by a considerable margin.

The Derbi rider fell mid-way through the session, but was still capable of recording a 1min 42.1secs lap time, which would prove 1.8secs quicker than his nearest rival, Lorenzo Savadori.

Vazquez's team-mate Pol Espargaro was third quickest on the Bainet Derbi after suffering technical problems, ahead of Johann Zarco and Luca Vitali.

Elsewhere, the other big news of the day was the appearance of Maxtra, who made their first tentative showing in a group capacity with riders Michael Ranseder and Matthew Hoyle.

Although Hoyle was the slowest of the ten riders competing, Ranseder gave the team reason to be encouraged with the seventh best lap, albeit 4.3secs off Vazquez's ultimate pace.
