Takahashi benefits from Dovizioso.

MotoGP rookie Yuki Takahashi thanked his Team Scot predecessor, Andrea Dovizioso, after claiming a better than usual 13th out of the 17 riders during the second night of testing at Qatar.

“I'm still adapting to the RC212V that is a complete new bike for me,” said the Japanese, whose 65 laps was the most by any rider on Monday. “It's normal that I need to do kilometres and get the feeling with the bike.

“At the beginning of the test session there was a lot of sand on track, then the conditions improved. I tried to do as many laps as possible to understand the bike.

“It was important to follow some more experienced riders to study the best line and I have to thank Andrea Dovizioso for this,” he said. “Tomorrow we will continue working in this direction.”

Takahashi's best lap was two seconds from Ducati's Casey Stoner and 1.25sec behind Dovizioso, who was fourth fastest for Repsol Honda.

Slowly but steady he's closing the gap with the frontrunners! still lots of work to do, but 2 seconds is OK. Not everyone is a Dovizioso or a Lorenzo.... I hope he'll have a good debut season with some nice surprices. Unlucky for him Motegi is the second round this year.
