Repsol Honda launches 2009 MotoGP project.

Repsol Honda held its official 2009 team launch on Saturday afternoon at the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid, alongside the Indoor Trial round.

The launch began with Repsol's recently crowned triple World Indoor Trial Champion, Toni Bou, making a spectacular entrance into the hall alongside Repsol Honda's new MotoGP star Andrea Dovizioso - the pair jumping onto the stage on trial bikes.

With Spanish team-mate Dani Pedrosa unable to attend in person due to his recent forearm and knee surgery, Dovizioso became the star of the show. Nevertheless, Pedrosa was present in virtual form, via a satellite link, allowing him to greet all the fans in the stadium and respond to questions from some Repsol workers.

At the end of the presentation Dovizioso unveiled the 2009 Repsol Honda RC212V, and declared he will do all he can to fight for title during his second season in the premier-class and first as a factory rider.

“Becoming an official rider in the Repsol Honda Team is a dream come true for me,” said Dovizioso, the leading satellite rider in the 2008 world championship. “It is a great experience and an incredible challenge, something I have already had a chance to see in the pre-season practice sessions.

“Being in the official team means that you carry more responsibility, I now have to help develop the motorbike, and that in the world of MotoGP is quite complex.

“All I did before was to ride and go as fast as possible, refining the setup, but now I also have to think about how the bike behaves so that its overall performance can be improved.

“The bike is going quite a bit better as we have more power coming from the engine, and a new chassis has really helped us with the sensations that the front end transmits to us, it now leans over better.

“I am very pleased to be in Madrid for the presentation of the Repsol team, and from now on I will do all I can in the fight for the world title,” vowed the young Italian.

It's a friggin heavily sponsored team launch... It's all PR talk. I remember that after last test he said that the Honda disappointed, that progress was slow, that he was surprised that it was not much better then his sattelite bike. Now it suddenly is the best thing out there with lots of progress and championship winning potential.....
