Gibernau happy to score points on return

Sete Gibernau has described his MotoGP return at Losail as a 'mission accomplished' after battling to a 13th place finish for the Grupo Francisco Hernando team.

Following a two-year hiatus, Gibernau made his long-awaited return to MotoGP in Qatar, although he would continue to find himself hampered by a pre-season injury that left him feeling 'below-par'.

Nonetheless, after qualifying 15th on the grid for the opening round of the season, Gibernau sustained that position to the finish line to score three points and get some useful mileage on the Ducati under his belt.

For Gibernau, merely getting to the finish line was the big achievement as he continues his recovery.

“Mission more than accomplished! That was an incredible effort from everybody involved. I want to congratulate my whole team for doing a fantastic job. I can't say I enjoyed it out there, I was suffering a lot, but I'm satisfied because the result is much more than we could have expected - we didn't think I'd even finish the race!

“I'm really, really happy and now I'm looking forward to getting home, doing some motocross training and getting my strength up some more ahead of the next race in Japan. I can't really make much of a judgement of the bike because I'm not pushing it to the limit yet.

“I was obviously nervous at the start of the race but once I saw that I'd got a good start I took everything calmly and just tried to see it through to the end.”

jees people hate everyone.. based on alot of people on this forum you would only have stoner and Rossi!!??!! Sete has come back from 2 years and had far less pre-season testing that everyone else (esp here at qatar) so to finish in 13 and out qualify hayden along with set faster laptimes proves the guy still has it. Give him sometime to get race fit and i am sure at Jerez he will start to move nearer the front. My absolute favourite racer of the 990's and the second most succesful guy on them next to rossi, as Raw said this was his first race on an 800 not a bad start!!
