This picture shows the relative size of Aleix Espargaro's Moto2 machine (top) compared with the Superbike of Kenny Noyes, during last weekend's Jerez round of the Spanish Formula Extreme Championship.

Four Moto2 machines were allowed to enter the Formula Extreme (Superbike) class at Jerez, with Espargaro qualifying his 145HP, 135 kilogram, Yamaha-powered Moto2 fifth on the grid, before crashing out of tenth in the race.

In his absence the Honda-propelled entry of Dani Rivas - who had qualified tenth - set the best Moto2 race lap, and all but equalled the 250GP lap record, on his way to seventh position.

Noyes meanwhile finished a close third for Kawasaki, just over one second from victory and eleven seconds ahead of Rivas. The quickest Extreme bikes run at a pace that would place them inside the top ten in World Superbike.

Moto2 will replace the 250GP class from next season, although the two-strokes will theoretically be allowed to race alongside the 600cc four-strokes for the first year.

All Moto2 bikes will use Honda-built engines next season.
