Rossi: An important moment.

Valentino Rossi is aiming to find the 'final step' in terms of getting the most from his M1 and return to the top of the podium during this weekend's Grand Prix of Catalunya.

The Montmeló track has been a happy hunting ground for the reigning six time MotoGP world champion, who has won on eight previous occasions, but he has finished second for the past two years.

“Barcelona is, along with Mugello and Phillip Island, one of my favourite tracks and I always love racing there. I have taken one Spanish win so far this season so I am hoping for another this weekend," he said.

Rossi arrives in Barcelona looking to make up for the disappointment of his home Italian Grand Prix, where third place in the wet/dry race ended his seven-year Mugello reign and dropped him to third in the world championship standings.

“Mugello was disappointing but still we took some good points and now, entering one of the most important phases of the championship, this is very important,” declared the Fiat Yamaha rider.

“We need to keep focused and use what we learnt in Mugello to put us in the right shape. I am hoping for good weather because I don't think these flag-to-flag races in the wet and the dry suit me very well!”

Mugello also marked the third time, from five 2009 starts, that Rossi had been beaten by team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and The Doctor admits he needs to get more from his M1.

“We still haven't found the perfect answer to make my M1 exactly how I want but Barcelona is a good track for us so hopefully we can make the final step there, also since we will finally have a chance to test on Monday," he said.

Rossi arrives at round six five points behind Lorenzo and nine from Ducati's world championship leader Casey Stoner, who won his second race of the year at Mugello.

Ready for some good championship prediction: 1 Rossi 2 Lorenzo 3 Stoner That would bring the 3 of them equal on point!!! A new start of the 2009 season... That would be awesome I think :-)
