125: leads Catalunya practice.

Julian Simon made a perfect start to his second home grand prix of the year, by setting the fastest Friday free practice time for the 125cc Grand Prix of Catalunya.

Simon, who crashed out of the Jerez round while in pursuit of Aspar Aprilia team-mate and race leader Bradley Smith, set a best lap time 0.495sec ahead of nearest rival - and third Aspar rider - Sergio Gadea.

Simon will start round six 3.5 points behind Smith, but the double 2009 race winner was only eleventh fastest on day one, while countryman Danny Webb is feared to have suffered hand damage after an accident.

Friday practice - Catalunya:

1. Simon (Aprilia) 1min 52.311sec
2. Gadea (Aprilia) +0.495sec
3. Terol (Aprilia) +0.787sec
4. Espargaro (Derbi) +0.896sec
5. Zanetti (Aprilia) +0.909sec
6. Cortese (Derbi) +0.996sec
7. Marquez (KTM) +1.005sec
8. Redding (Aprilia) +1.063sec
9. Krummenacher (Aprilia) +1.254sec
10. Iannone (Aprilia) +1.372sec
