Reigning 250cc world champion Marco Simoncelli is rumoured to have reached an agreement to ride for Honda in MotoGP next season.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport the highly-rated Metis Gilera rider is most likely to be placed by HRC at the satellite Gresini team in 2010, due to the new rule that prevents rookies moving straight to a factory MotoGP team (with the exception of Suzuki, which has no satellite team).

Toni Elias and Alex de Angelis currently ride for Gresini, and it is possible that Simoncelli has been tempted by the third factory-spec RC212V currently provided by Honda for Elias.

The 'no-factory' rookie rule only applies to the team, rather than the machine specification.
