Yamaha’s superb start

Seven races into the 2009 MotoGP season and Yamaha is having arguably its best ever start to a premier-class season, as shown by the following facts and figures:

• Yamaha have taken five wins from the first seven races of the year.

• Yamaha riders have taken pole position at five of the first seven races of the year.

• In the two races that Yamaha riders have not won in 2009, a Yamaha rider has finished second.

• Yamaha riders have taken twelve of the twenty-one podium places available in the first seven races of the year.

• Following the Dutch TT, Yamaha riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo are first and second in the championship standings.

• At the Dutch TT, for the first time ,Yamaha four-stroke MotoGP machines took four of the top six places.

• Yamaha riders have finished first and second at the last two races. This is the first time that Yamaha have taken the top two places in successive premier-class races since 1993, when Luca Cadalora won his first 500cc race at Donington from team-mate Wayne Rainey and then at the next race at Brno, Rainey won with Cadalora second.

• Yamaha lead the constructors' classification, taking 165 points from a maximum possible 175 points.
