Double 250cc world championship runner-up Ralf Waldmann
will make a shock one-off return to grand prix racing, in place of the injured Vladimir Leonov at the Viessmann Kiefer Racing team, during this weekend's British Grand Prix at Donington Park.
43-year-old Waldmann, a 20 time grand prix winner in the 125 and 250cc classes, last raced in 250GP in 2002. The German star, who appears to have clinched the ride whilst a spectator at Sunday's Sachsenring race (pictured), last raced at Donington in 2000, when he took a stunning last lap rain victory over Olivier Jacque.
Waldmann later came out of semi-retirement and signed for the Harris WCM MotoGP team, but quit before the 2003 season began after failing to adapt to a four-stroke.
