Marco Melandri recorded his latest giant-killing performance by taking his Hayate-run Kawasaki to sixth place in wet/dry Friday practice for the 2009 British Grand Prix at Donington Park.

The Italian snatched the top spot with ten minutes to go, before finishing the session half a second behind Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa.

"It's been a good session for us," Melandri told the official MotoGP website. "We could understand how the bike was working in full wet conditions and try to understand when the best time will be to change bike if the conditions are the same in the race.

"I'm quite confident because I feel good on the bike and I think that also in the dry we can have a good rhythm," he added. "I want to be in the top six or seven if it's dry and in the wet you never know, because it is a gamble. I just want to do my best and have fun."

Melandri finished second in similar wet/dry conditions at the French Grand Prix earlier this year.
