The last time a Suzuki GSV-R finished on the MotoGP podium was in the hands of Loris Capirossi in the 2008 Czech Republic Grand Prix on August 17, meaning a non-rostrum in this weekend's Brno return would push the factory's podium absence to over one calendar year.

So far this season, Capirossi and team-mate Chris Vermeulen have each claimed a best result of fifth, although the last two rounds have been especially tough - with a GSV-R no higher than eleventh at the flag.

After ten of 17 rounds, Suzuki sits fourth in the constructors' championship, ten points head of the unofficial Kawasaki entry, with Vermeulen and Capirossi ninth and tenth in the riders' championship.

Suzuki looks in clear need of new parts, but the new engine rule that comes into effect from this weekend's round - five engines per rider for the rest of the season - means that the reliability of any new parts will need to have been thoroughly evaluated.

Meanwhile, Capirossi is desperate to break the podium drought.

"I just can't wait to get back on the bike again; we have a lot of unfinished business and need to show that the results we've been getting are not a true reflection on how hard the team has been working recently," he said.

"I got a third at Brno last year which was the last time I was on the podium and that is just too long, so I need to do something about it. We really want consistently good weather all weekend so we can get the set-up right for the GSV-R and if that happens I think we have a chance of a really good result," insisted the Italian.

Vermeulen, who has been nursing injuries since round eight at Laguna Seca, finished sixth at Brno last season.

"We've had a bit of time for some rest and relaxation since the last race and that has given all my injuries a chance to heal and I'll be 100% fit when we get to the Czech Republic," said the Australian. "The break has given us an opportunity to look at the data from the last couple of events and see where we can make some changes for Brno.

"I have been speaking with Tom [crew chief] about the bike and we have a few ideas and we are both quite positive we can improve it straight away - which will be good. I've done pretty well at Brno in the past couple of years and I'm sure that this is a track where we can make the best of the GSV-R."
