Mattia Pasini to test Pramac Ducati

14 August 2009

125 and 250GP race winner Mattia Pasini will test for the Pramac Ducati MotoGP team during Monday's post-race outing at Brno in the Czech Republic.

The Italian will swap his usual Team Toth Aprilia for Mika Kallio's vacant Desmosedici GP9 - the Finn having moved to the factory Ducati Marlboro Team for the next three rounds while Casey Stoner receives treatment for his energy-sapping illness.

"I want to thank Ducati, Pramac Racing and team principal Paolo Campinoti who are giving me this magnificent opportunity to try their bike in Brno on Monday,” said Pasini, currently fifth in the 2009 250cc World Championship. “It will be an important test for me as I will have the possibility to understand if I will be able to ride a MotoGP bike. I always liked difficult challenges and I am ready for this one."

Kallio's Pramac place at the Czech Republic Grand Prix is being taken by Ducati's factory WSBK rider Michel Fabrizio, but the Italian is not thought to be keeping the seat beyond this weekend.

Nevertheless, Pasini's ride is presently being labelled as a 'one-off'.

"This idea has come out together with Ducati because Mika's bike would have remained without a rider in the box after the Finn joined the Ducati Marlboro Team for the next three races,” said Campinoti. “Mattia has demonstrated during this season that he deserves this opportunity and for these reasons we're happy and proud to have him with us even if for only one day."

Pasini has won ten grands prix, eight in 125 and two in 250cc. His most recent victory was in his home Italian Grand Prix earlier this year.
