Toni Elias shot from fourth to second at the start of Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix, where he remained for the next four laps before being overtaken by Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo (lap 5), then Andrea Dovizioso (lap 6) and Loris Capirossi(lap 14).
“I have mixed feelings about that race because sixth place is a decent result but after making such a good start it could have been so much better,” said the Gresini Honda rider.
“The team have done a great job with the bike over the weekend after a terrible first day but for some reason it wasn't quite right today after only a few laps. We have to look at why that was because once again we have shown the pace to run with the very best in this class," he added.
“Sixth place for Toni is positive and the kind of result we were dreaming of only a few rounds ago. He made a really strong start and ran with the leaders but then something happened with his bike that we need to analyse,” confirmed team manager Fausto Gresini.
