Testing schedule kicks off in Malaysia

No pre-season testing will take place in Europe ahead of the 2010 MotoGP season, with dates being lined up for Malaysia and Qatar only.

Last year saw Sepang, Losail and Jerez host a round of testing each before the season got underway, but the Malaysian circuit looks set for two tests in 2010 and a further outing in Qatar.

The first test of the new year will take place from February 3-5 at Sepang, before the teams and riders return to the circuit for a further outing from February 24-26. Qatar will then host the final test from March 17-19.

By having the Qatar test last, teams should be able to reduce some transportation costs since they will not need to ferry equipment to Jerez and then back to Qatar for the opening round of the season (as happened last year).

By holding all tests outside Europe, favourable weather can be expected, but will the end of pre-season 'qualifying session' to win a BMW sports car still be held?

Testing during the year will also occur in Barcelona and Brno, following their respective rounds, while Valencia will again host the post-season test.

The new Moto2 series, meanwhile, will have its first official test at Valencia on March 1-3 before further development at Jerez (March 6-8) and again at Jerez (March 27-29) take it up to its inaugural race.

who the hell comes on with these ideas??? preparing to a new year with so little track time??? with the changed rule on the engines??? seems to me that someone is trying to hard to spoil the sport, you can't develop a prototype just in a computer, you have to try the new ideas, see if it works. stop these nonsense please. let these guys get at least 6 proper test's, let them do their work, that's the reason why we watch them....
