Espargaro makes good strides in testing

Aleix Espargaro shows potential during his first opportunity to test the Pramac Ducati away from a race weekend
Aleix Espargaro is counting down the days until the start of the 2010 MotoGP season after getting the chance to do some proper testing with new employers Pramac Ducati at Valencia.

Although the Spaniard has now completed four races with the team, with a results series of two 11th positions and two 13th positions, post-season testing was the first opportunity for him to get some non-competitive mileage on the bike.

Setting his sights on matching highly-regarded team-mate Mika Kallio, Espargaro wouldn't slip more than three tenths adrift of the Finn throughout the three days, ending up seventh quickest overall on the final day of action.

A positive end to the year for the 20-year-old, Espargaro is now looking forward to making his full-time debut with Pramac next year.

"I kept a very constant and good pace today but unfortunately, in contrast to other riders, I was unable to do a single fast lap to reach better positions. But it's ok, next year we will have many opportunities to improve.

“My confidence with the bike has increased a lot thanks to these hours of work in Valencia: we changed the set up of the swingarm and this has given me much more grip and consequently I felt more comfortable on the bike. I am sure that next year we will have a lot of fun."

Having finished the year as 'top rookie', Kallio is also excited about what the future brings having been a regular top ten threat throughout his maiden season.

"And so my first year in MotoGP is officially over. During these three days of work we could try different mix of technical solutions used during this year and we have reached a very high level of competitiveness.

“I have learnt a lot this season and this also thanks to the support that my staff has given me. Next year we will come back determined to improve our performances in the races."
