2009 Rossi’s least wins in a title season.

Valentino Rossi claimed his seventh MotoGP title in 2009 with his least amount of race wins during a championship season.

The Italian took six victories during 2009, just two more than Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner.

Adding further weight to the suggestion that this year's crown was Rossi's hardest ever is that his end of season advantage over team-mate and nearest rival Lorenzo was 45 points - the closest margin by which Rossi has been crowned.

2009 was the first season of single-tyre MotoGP competition.

Valentino Rossi's MotoGP World Championships:

2009 Yamaha 17 (Races) 6 (Wins) 13 (Podiums) +45 (Points, Lorenzo)
2008 Yamaha 18 (Races) 9 (Wins) 16 (Podiums) +93 (Points, Stoner)
2005 Yamaha 17 (Races) 11 (Wins) 16 (Podiums) +147 (Points, Melandri)
2004 Yamaha 16 (Races) 9 (Wins) 11 (Podiums) +47 (Points, Gibernau)
2003 Honda 16 (Races) 9 (Wins) 16 (Podiums) +80 (Points, Gibernau)

2001 Honda 16 (Races) 11 (Wins) 13 (Podiums) +106 (Points, Biaggi)

Perhaps this shows how easy the 800's are with all the electronics compared to the 990's?. Rossi is regarded as the best in terms of talent yet Lorenzo after 1 season runs him right to the wire on the same bike?. Please Dorna bring back the 990's!!!!

I say no. His toughest was winning his second year on the 500, that is a true accomplishment in only his second season. Just to point out, how many other 250 riders moved up to 500 and claimed a world championship? None since Spencer won both in 85. Stoner has moved up and won in his second year in four stroke era. The 500s were knarly.
