Star riders try FTR Moto2.

FTR Moto will head into this weekend's Valencia Spanish Championship finale with the benefit of a two day test at Almeria under its belts - at which Graeme Gowland was joined on track by a host of riders testing the M209 Moto2 prototype.

Those riders included former MotoGP star Jeremy McWilliams, WSS title runner-up Eugene Laverty, 125GP race winner Scott Redding, STK 600cc champion Gino Rea, Spanish Supersport champion Kev Coghlan and German rider Arne Tode.

Many of the riders were representing potential grand prix teams interested in running FTR machinery in the inaugural 2010 Moto2 World Championship.

“To get the track time and allow so many riders to try our machine was superb,” said FTR Moto director Steve Bones. “Jeremy McWilliams gave us great feedback and they all enjoyed having the opportunity. Most took to the machine straight away and Arne Tode especially looked very impressive and at ease.

“We'll have two machines at Valencia this weekend but we've taken the decision to run just Graeme and focus the development on the rider who now knows the machine the best. Also, Graeme's great performance in Jerez last Sunday has given us something to build on.”

Gowland finished the first full race for the M209 13th overall in the combined Formula Extreme/Moto2 race at Jerez - and fourth out of seven finishers in the 600cc Moto2 class.

The Briton was just 3.5sec behind the top Moto2 machine of Xavier Fores (Laglisse Yamaha) after 17 laps, with the BQR machines of Daniel Rivas and Shuhei Aoyama second and third.

"The Almeria test was exactly what we needed," said Gowland. "It was another circuit and we tackled the set-up issues from Jerez in detail."

“We're heading to Valencia better armed than Jerez, with data from this test and, overall, we've made good progress,” confirmed Bones.

“We've had a lot of interest from grand prix teams now so we're also putting together a winter test programme with them and all of the interested teams from the Spanish Championship,” he revealed.
