Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa has had the supporting screw removed from an old hand injury in an operation he hopes will allow him greater control in 2010.

The Spaniard underwent the minor procedure at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, with the screw being removed from an old fracture in his left hand. He also had the extensor tendons 'eased' in the same hand in an effort to allow him greater freedom of movement in his wrist. He was discharged the same day, and spent Christmas at home.

Dr Xavier Mir, the head of hand surgery, believes that Pedrosa could begin his full recovery in around a fortnight.
