Valentino Rossi's latest Formula 1 endeavour saw him continue to make progress driving the Ferrari F2008, despite adverse weather conditions and technical issues shortening his track time.

Rossi was on track for Ferrari at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain, but his hopes of setting representative lap times in the morning were scuppered by rainy weather, while a technical problem would consign him to the pit lane for a time too.

Nonetheless, Rossi got some uninterrupted running in the afternoon, using the drying track to immediately lay down a marker of 1min 35.5secs. Gradually, Rossi reduced this by almost ten seconds to complete his day with a best lap of 1min 25.6secs.

Put into perspective, the qualifying record around the Barcelona circuit, set by Kimi Raikkonen in a similar machine, is 1min 20.7secs. With this in mind, the nine-time world champion was satisfied with his performance.

"I'm very happy because it was a good test. We had some problems with the track when it was wet, but in the afternoon on slicks we recorded some good times because the track was drying out."

Rossi will be out on track again today [Thursday].
