Hayden 'satisfied' with Ducati progress

Nicky Hayden looks forward to the next MotoGP outing in Malaysia after ending the first test of the year in eighth.
Nicky Hayden was 'satisfied' with his progress during two days of MotoGP testing at Sepang, even if imperfect weather conditions prevented him from finishing higher up the timesheets.

The American was looking to use the test as an opportunity to get acquainted with the 'big bang' Ducati GP10, but with inclement weather hampering his running, he was unable to end the test any higher than eighth.

Placing him just over a second adrift of team-mate Casey Stoner, a marginal improvement on where he was classified at the same test twelve months ago, Hayden insists he was unable to get a better lap time in due to the bad timing of the rain.

“I am satisfied but I could be happier,” Hayden, who was eighth fastest on the final day of action, said. “These past two days have flown by and the weather hasn't helped us to make the most of the track time available.

“Anyway, this morning we got the chance to find a wet setting for the new forks and engine. When we went out in the dry I could feel an instant improvement on yesterday and I set a decent pace but then we didn't improve further.

“I would have liked to post a better lap time but just when we put some new tyres in the rain came back. However, it was a very positive test and I can't wait to get back to work at the next one in a couple of weeks' time.”

Only Nicky, Val, and Randy DP posted better times this year than they did last year at the same test. No, it doesn't mean much at this point. But I do think he'll be better on the Duc this year.
