Dovizioso feeling positive after test

Andrea Dovizioso ends the second day sixth quickest, two positions and half a second down on team-mate Dani Pedrosa
Andrea Dovizioso has promised to reveal his 'true pace' at the next MotoGP test in Malaysia after completing his first outing of the year in sixth position.

Starting the countdown to his second season with the factory Repsol Honda team, his third in MotoGP in total, Dovizioso spent the first day becoming reacquainted with the RC212V before focusing on suspension set-up.

Out pacing Dani Pedrosa on the first day, Dovizioso sliced four tenths off his best time on day two, but would end up half a second adrift of his team-mate eventually.

Nonetheless, despite the gap, Dovizioso, who finished sixth overall in 2009, insists the more representative lap times will come in the second Sepang test, scheduled for just over two weeks time.

“I leave Sepang feeling positive and I'm confident for the next test because we have clear ideas about the direction we have to follow. On day two we worked on the suspension and tested some set-up options - with positive results. I'm happy because, thanks to the electronics, the package has improved in all aspects - but there is still a job to do.

“In particular we need to take another step forward regarding the balance. I'm confident that we can work on this at next test session here in Sepang. Today we were always running on hard tyres and we didn't look for ultimate lap times. I think the next Sepang test will be more indicative about our true pace.”

give the lad a break... It's not easy riding that thing that's designed purely for the dwarf. Ya can't knock a bloke for trying to keep his confidence up... Oh...and stoner was never the 250 rider that dovi was...

Elton, Dovi was riding round on a Honda that hadn't been developed since Pedrosa left the class, against full on factory Aprilia's. Far better 250 rider than Stoner
