Tomizawa sets pace on second day at Catalunya

Technomag-CIP's Shoya Tomizawa leads the way as Moto2 testing at Catalunya enters a second day
Japanese rider Shoya Tomizawa posted the quickest time on the second day of Moto2 testing at Catalunya on Thursday.

With improved weather conditions, the Technomag-CIP rider posted a quickest time of 1min 49.4secs aboard his Suter MMX machine to outpace Forward Racing's Jules Cluzel and Blusens-STX's Yonny Hernandez – who posted the same time of 1min 49.6secs.

Despite improved weather, the day dawned with wet patches on the circuit following Wednesday's rain and Julian Simon was one rider to fall early on, although the Spaniard fought back to end the day with the fourth quickest time, matching the lap set by Yuki Takahasi on the Tech 3 bike after he elected to sit out day one altogether. Kenny Noyes was sixth quickest and the final rider to dip below the 1min 50secs marker.

Day one pacesetter Roberto Rolfo was seventh despite suffering a dislocated shoulder in a fall (see separate story HERE) while Claudio Corti, Alex Baldolini and Dominique Aegerter rounded out the top ten.

Thomas Luthi and Vincent Lonbois were amongst the other riders to suffer falls during the day.

So I guess you didn't read day 1 was rain out and yesterday still had wet patches causing riders to fall? Anyway, mottomatters says out of the guys under 1.50 Takahashi on the Tech 3 and Noyes on the Harris are the ones with engines in the lowest state of tune in superstock spec. So it looks like they may have their chassis sorted the best right now. Things should get a bit clearer when everyone gets the Moto2 spec engine.

....if the racing is close and there is passing for the lead every lap, does anyone really care they are 3 seconds off the pace? I think the speed will come once the motors are supplied and setups perfected.
