New Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Marc M?rquez got 2010 off to a flying start by topping the timesheets during the first 125cc test session of the year, at Valencia.

The Spaniard's best lap time, a 1min 40.280sec, was over a second quicker than Julian Sim?n's pole position mark from last year's GP - enough to keep him on top of the test by 0.394sec.

"At the moment, everything is going really well and I'm feeling comfortable with the Derbi," said the former factory KTM rider. "I felt more confident on the machine because at the beginning you are always a little stiff and we tried different set-ups to get one I like.

"We even clocked up a good time, but at the moment that's not important, what is important is to ride, clock up kilometres and continue getting to know the team, with which I'm working well."

Bainet Derbi duo Efr?n V?zquez and Pol Espargar? were second and third fastest respectively, with Bancaja Aspar rider Bradley Smith the fourth and the final rider under the 1min 41sec mark.

The British rider's new team-mate Nicolas Terol completed the top five times, with Johann Zarco (WTR San Marino Team), Sandro Cortese (Avant Intact Ajo Motorsport), Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX), Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Cajasol) and Marcel Schr?tter (Interwetten Racing) completing the top ten.

The top Lambreta rider was Luis Salom, who was 22nd out of the 25 competitors.

The next 125cc test will also take place alongside Moto2 riders, this time at Jerez from March 6-8.
