de Puniet leads Honda challenge

Randy de Puniet smashed his best lap time from the 2009 Qatar Grand Prix on his way to being the fastest Honda rider on the opening night of the Losail MotoGP test.

Despite suffering from some stomach cramps, the satellite LCR rider set a best lap time of 1min 56.811sec, good enough for a commendable fifth position and one place ahead of the top factory Honda rider, Andrea Dovizioso.

de Puniet's best lap time in the 2009 grand prix was a 1min 57.947sec, recorded on his way to tenth place.

“Well... apart from the stomach pain I am very satisfied,” said the Frenchman, “When I arrived here two days ago I was ok but this morning I felt the first cramps and it has not been easy to do my job in these conditions.

“Anyway when we left Sepang some weeks ago I knew that we have found a good base and today my positive feeling has been confirmed. I lapped consistently fast both on hard and soft tyres and I think we can get a further improvement on soft ones. We will see tomorrow...”

de Puniet was riding in 2010 GIVI livery on his Honda. GIVI will once again be one of LCR's title sponsors during the forthcoming season.

That 'wheelie bike' Honda have conjured up for 2010 seems to suit him. Now all he has to do is build from there, keep the rubber on the tarmac for the length of each of 18 races and rub Repsol's nose in it. Good on you Randy and LCR.
