Hector Barbera is aiming for a top ten finish on his MotoGP debut, duirng the 2010 Qatar season-opener on April 11.

The former 125 and 250cc World Championship runner-up - who is graduating to MotoGP with the new Paginas Amarillas Aspar team - was ranked just 15th fastest at the end of the third and final pre-season test at Losail last week.

But with all 17 riders covered by 2.026sec, and seventh place only 0.7sec ahead of him, Barbera feels he has a real chance to vault up the order during the grand prix weekend.

"The most important thing about this last session was that I set my best time riding alone. It is also positive that I did so many laps and stayed consistent on new and old tyres," revealed the Spaniard.

"Every time I get on the Ducati I improve a lot, but obviously the level is very high - you can make up ten positions with just half a second. The overall reflection of the pre-season is that it was short because six days is not a long time when everything is so new.

"Anyway, we have met our initial objectives and I think we're ready for the first race of the year. We have potential and I whilst don't want to get ahead of myself I'd be lying if I said I didn't think we could challenge for the top ten," he declared.

The other three graduates from the 2009 250cc World Championship - Alvaro Bautista, Hiroshi Aoyama and Marco Simoncelli - finished the Qatar test in twelfth, 16th and 17th respectively.

The top rookie at Qatar was reigning World Superbike champion Ben Spies in fourth overall.
