125: Marquez leaves Jerez test fastest

Marc Marquez will head into the new 125cc World Championship season full of confidence after leading the final pre-season test, at Jerez.

The Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider may have left the Spanish circuit with a best lap time just 0.275sec ahead of fellow Derbi competitor Pol Espargaro - but third placed Nicolas Terol, of the Bancaja Aspar team, was 0.753sec off Marquez.

“Both the team and I are very happy with the work done because it has been very good throughout the pre-season," said former KTM rider Marquez. "We haven't had any falls - except one unimportant one at the Circuit de Catalunya because of a puddle - and I've felt confident with this machine. We haven't had any races for a long time but we're about to start and I'm ready for Qatar”.

German Sandro Cortese was the top non-Spaniard in fourth for Avant Intact Ajo Derbi, with Efren Vasquez (Bainet Derbi) and Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) the only other riders within one second of Marquez.

Indeed, seventh-placed Randy Krummenacher was a massive 1.5sec from the top, while Terol's team-mate Bradley Smith - the 2009 title runner-up - could only manage eighth, 1.6sec from Marquez.

Andalucia Cajasol team-mates Alberto Moncayo and Danny Webb completed the top ten.

The first round of the 2010 125cc season will take place at Qatar from April 9-11.

I'd back Nico Terol to win.He is a talented lad and now has the best bike in the championship at his disposal. He will almost certainly beat his team-mate.
