Edwards targets race wins with Tech 3

The Texan is quietly confident of breaking his MotoGP race victory duck in 2010 after a positive winter of testing with Tech 3 Yamaha
Colin Edwards believes Tech 3 can be race winners this season, the American stating his Yamaha M1 is the closest it has ever been to its sister factory counterpart.

While he stopped short of saying his satellite machine is on a par with the FIAT Yamahas of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, Edwards points to his and team-mate Ben Spies' testing performances for proof that they are in good shape.

Edwards is yet to win a race at MotoGP level, but while he came close with a second place finish in the rain-affected 2009 British Grand Prix, he is confident he has a package capable of challenging at the front without the levelling factor rain.

“This year probably would be the closest they've ever been. I'm not saying the bikes are exactly the same but I think they're a lot closer than before. That's about all we can really ask for, being a sister team. When you look at the speed charts, we're right there. Everybody's running well.

“It's going to be difficult; I'm not going to lie to you. Anybody that's going to bet against Valentino's got their head screwed on wrong. But [a win] it's definitely a possibility. Like I said, this is the closest our bikes have ever been to factory spec, so if there was ever a year it was going to flat-out happen, this is definitely one of those years.”
