Motegi MotoGP officially postponed

19 April 2010

It has been officially confirmed that the Japanese round on the 2010 MotoGP calendar – originally slated to take place at the Twin Ring Motegi this weekend – has been postponed until later in the season due to the Icelandic volcano eruption.

It was rumoured over the weekend that as a result of ongoing travel chaos and grounded airlines across Europe, the event may have to be re-scheduled due to serious difficulties in transporting team personnel and equipment over to the other side of the world in time for the start of the weekend.

With a cloud of ash still occupying the sky, airlines are refusing to fly on safety grounds, and on the basis of force majeure, world motorcycling's governing body the FIM, MotoGP organiser Dorna and Japanese Grand Prix promoter Mobilityland Corporation have jointly agreed to move the race back to 3 October, directly before the similar 'flyaway' outings at Sepang in Malaysia and Phillip Island in Australia.
