Dorna makes sure Jerez can go ahead

22 April 2010

Following the cancellation of this weekend's Japanese MotoGP round, due to flight bans earlier this week in Europe following the Icelandic volcano eruption, Dorna Sports has taken steps to ensure that next weekend's Jerez round won't also be disrupted.

270 tonnes of freight - the absence of the riders and team personal was what forced the Motegi event to be cancelled - spread between three Boeing 747s, needs to return from Japan in time for the Spanish Grand Prix.

And to safeguard against future flight cancellations, Dorna has two alternative routes into Europe planned - one via Finland and the other via America. All freight should arrive in Spain on Tuesday.

The 270 tonnes of cargo is roughly split as follows: Bikes and team equipment (180 tonnes), Dorna's TV broadcasting equipment (50 tonnes), advertising material (23 tonnes), timing equipment (7 tonnes) and BMW safety car and motorcycles (5.5 tonnes).
