Hector Barbera is looking forward to making his first MotoGP appearance on home ground in Spain as he bids to build on the solid 12th place he achieved at the Qatar season opener earlier this month.
Both Barbera and his Páginas Amarillas Aspar finished their first MotoGP race with a run just outside the top ten at Losail, but with Jerez signalling the first of four Spanish based races for their pair this season, Barbera is keen to perform better.
Indeed, although the postponement of the Japanese Grand Prix means Barbera is one-race shorter of preparation than he would like, he is hoping his test outings at Jerez at the end of 2009 will boost his chances.
"Racing in Spain is always a source of joy for me and I'm looking forward to this one even more after the postponement of the Japanese race. The season ends in Spain and is pretty much starting here too, which shows how important motorcycle racing is to this country and I'm sure the fans can't wait to get down for this one.
“I would like to have a little more experience under my belt before going to Jerez but it has worked out this way and I'll just give my best to put on a good race for the fans. Jerez isn't one of my favourite circuits but I always seem to go well there and I think I can put in a good performance.
“We also have information from the test in the winter, which will be an advantage for us. Even though it rained back then I had a good feeling with the bike and I'm sure the experience will come in handy this weekend."
