Marc Marquez won an all-Spanish battle for home pole position during 125cc qualifying at Jerez on Saturday.

Spaniard's filled the leading positions from the start of the session, which took place under sunny skies, with Pol Espargaro just 0.001sec ahead of Efren Vasquez as the final ten minutes began.

But it was Marquez who toppled Espargaro, with a new pole record, a few minutes later. Tuenti Derbi rider Espargaro tried to retaliate in the final minutes, closing to within 0.104sec of the Red Bull Ajo Derbi rider on his last lap.

Qatar runner-up Vasquez was unable to raise his pace and was left 0.446sec behind team-mate Espargaro in third, while Esteve Rabat claimed the final place on the front row as the top Aprilia rider.

Rounding out an all-Spanish top five was Qatar winner Nicolas Terol, with German Sandro Cortese once again best of the rest, this time in sixth. Terol's Aspar team-mate and 2009 Jerez winner Bradley Smith will start seventh, having been the final rider within one second of Marquez.

Marquez also took pole for round one in Qatar, but dropped to third in the race and will once again be chasing his long overdue first grand prix victory on Sunday.
