Dovizioso takes last lap podium

One year ago at Le Mans Andrea Dovizioso lost out on a podium finish to Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa on the very last lap, but he got his revenge in the 2010 race.

Dovizioso held his seventh position on the opening lap, but was up to fourth, behind Pedrosa, by lap three of 28.

Pedrosa was two seconds clear at one point, but the Italian slowly edged up on the Spaniard, Honda's most successful rider of the 800cc era, catching him with four laps to go.

The #4 put up a stubborn resistance, but couldn't stop Dovi outbraking him into the first chicane on the final lap.

“I needed to overtake Dani on the last lap, as he did [to me] last year,” smiled Dovi, who has finished 3-6-3 in the three rounds so far. “Also it was very important because I wanted to confirm that the result in Qatar was not a one-off.

“Dani has really good acceleration so it was difficult to make the overtake. I waited for four laps, worked out my strategy and I made my move on the last lap at the corner I'd planned.”

Dovizioso crossed the line 7.872sec behind race winner Jorge Lorenzo, and is now back up to third in the championship, two points in front of Pedrosa.

“We were not so far from Lorenzo. This is really important and also to stay in front of Dani,” Dovi declared.

After being passed by Dovizioso, Pedrosa lost a further position to Hayden.

Honda knows that, thats why they want stoner, and dovi to be teammate and you know what does that mean. Honda should just trust Dovi and give him the factory stuff, and he will be fighting for podium each race, next year will be the 1000cc,honda are far better on the 990cc to up, they will the factory to beeat if they just get the right riders, Jore or Stoner would make their resurrection
