Bradley Smith is confident that his early season technical troubles are behind him, and is targeting a dose of deja vu as he fights to get his 125cc World Championship challenge back on track at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix.
Last year Smith secured a superb victory around the legendary 3.259-mile Mugello circuit in the 20 lap race he started from pole.
But after three rounds of 2010, Smith is only sixth in the championship after being pushed back to fifth place on the last lap at the previous round in France.
However, after major mechanical issues in the first two races and practice in France, Smith feels his Bancaja Aspar Aprilia is ready to fight for the lead once again, starting at Mugello.
“I have some fantastic memories of Mugello last year and a repeat of that victory would be perfect after the difficult start to the year,” he said. “Despite being knocked back to fifth on the last lap of Le Mans it was a great feeling to be fighting near the front once again.
“I'm confident we have sorted out the acceleration problems with the bike and we are ready to fight for the lead for the first time this season,” he declared.
