Hiroshi Aoyama believes a stronger start to grand prix weekends is key to him progressing up the field following another solid race performance at Le Mans.
The reigning 250GP champion has proven consistent since stepping up to MotoGP with Interwetten Honda, but is now classified behind Hector Barbera and Marco Simoncelli overall.
Looking ahead to the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, Aoyama admits he wants to be stronger through free practice to give him a better chance in qualifying and the races.
“Mugello is one of the difficult tracks. You have to have a lot of experience to handle this track. Even for me Mugello is not really easy and I have been around for a couple of years.
“I also want to be stronger already in the practices this time and I want to keep improving like in Le Mans. I am absolutely sure that we have the potential to be better. I want to give all this weekend and we will see where we can be.”
Aoyama's views are shared by Interwetten team manager Daniel Epp.
“Also in Le Mans Hiro´s performance was stronger in the race than in the practices. Intention and target for Mugello is to be up there already from the first practice on.
“If we can get the settings of the bike right straight away, I am sure the potential is big to be further in front in the race.”
