Dovizioso still chasing 'step forward'

While he is confident the Repsol Honda will go well in Barcelona, Dovizioso admits he needs another step forward if he is to challenge for honours.
Andrea Dovizioso is hoping he can call on his good previous form around the Circuit de Catalunya to help him take the 'step forward' he needs to challenge for victory.

Dovizioso has enjoyed strong results through the classes in Barcelona, the Italian finishing no lower than fourth over the last six seasons – including a win at 250cc level.

Indeed, having lost some of his momentum with a run to fifth position in the Dutch TT, Dovizioso is confident the Repsol Honda RC212V will be well suited to the Circuit de Catalunya.

“I'm happy to be going to the Catalunya Grand Prix straight after the last race so that we can quickly turn page on the result in Assen and aim for a good result in Montmelo. This is one of my favourite circuits, it suits my riding style and I think it should be good also for the Honda RC212V machines.

“It's a long track with fast corners and it's a great feeling when you find the right flow and link one turn with the next. There is also a fantastic atmosphere at this track, and when you enter the final four corners it feels like a stadium and the sensation is incredible. I have always had good results here and I'm feeling really motivated.

“We have been strong so far this season and generally we have been improving race by race. We've finished on the podium quite a few times, and thanks to the work we put in over the winter we've been closer to front- running pace at most races.

“Still, we need to take another step forward so that we can compete for victory - that's what we'll try to do this weekend. I'm looking forward to the next challenge in Spain.”

Mojo - Dovi is 3rd in the championship, Spies is 8th and has finished ahead of Dovi once in 6 races - not much of a wrestle. Both are improving but both are a long way from alien status.

Agree with you guys, they are far from alien status - but like it or not, Rossi has left a vacuum in his wake and any good rider needs to take advantage of that and use it as a step up the food chain. Someone will have to fill that place. Ok, maybe I was optimistic (can't blame a fan) in saying Spies was the one he will have to wrestle with. maybe the correct rider would be Hayden as he, too, is on factory equipment and also riding quite solidly this year.
